Are you using VPN by any chance? Try to disconnect the VPN client and retry..

Yeah, sorry I put a edit in last minute you might of not of caught. Updated to the latest 3.4.3.9-091 base from padvan and still same problem. And I just literally finished downgrading to the manufactures latest bios directly from asus website and my pings are again normal. So it was definitely padavans firmware! The odd thing is, web surfing was much faster on padavans, but I don't think I can sacrifice such huge ping difference. Is there anything that would cause such a huge difference in pings?

Sorry, never updated. No I don't use a VPN. I decided to give it another try and loaded the micro build after a factory reset and bios load and everytthing seems to be going fine now. Ping time are now low again. Thanks for trying to help!

Is anyone aware if Padavans supports some kind of QoS? I watch a lot of streaming and don't want to constantly buffer. Maybe QoS by Mac address or internal ip? It's for a streaming box. Any help is appreciated!

Hello guys. I have an RT-N56U and about a week ago tried to install Padavan. I really love it, but there are some issues.

I live in the back of a coffee shop that my roommates run. Therefore, we have a Home AP and a Shop AP. The Shop AP is for customers obviously, it is only enabled during business hours and it's set to limit speeds to 1Mb/s. This has been going well, but I've began noticing that later in the day, after the shop closes, the slowdowns are unbelievable. We (on the Home AP) have time-outs constantly, nothing will load in a reasonable time, and I can barely even open the router interface. Once I (soft) reboot, everything mostly goes back to normal for a while, until the next day.

Is there anything I can do to combat this? Can I try to flash a different version of the firmware? I'm running 3.4.3.9-093. Will downgrading keep all of my settings? Any other suggestions guys? Thanks for the help.

Issue:
I've downloaded the latest 3.4.3.9-094 firmware onto my RT-N56U and have tried every possible combination of WDS only, AP & AP Client as a bridge, etc... and am able to connect to the AC66U via the RT-N56U, but not project internet via the 2.4ghz nor the 5ghz as ap & ap client as a bridge.

I would like to connect my RT-N56U to my RT-AC66U on the 5ghz band and broadcast a new network on the 2.4ghz band. I know very little about router setup, but know that i can execute this strategy using padavan, I just don't know what exact settings i need on either router.

Hey guys,

Quick question; Is the Padavans firmware GUI the same as ASUS' default? I only ask because I've flashed the latest Padavan firmware and it looks completely the same, it's also still displaying the ASUS firmware build.

Any help appreciated.

EDIT: Nevermind, sorted it and it's working great.

Hi Guys,
I was using the WNDR3700 with DD_WRT installed. I love the flexibility of the DD-WRT but then the performance is really bad. Then I got the Asus RT-N56U for free but it doesn't have guest wifi and parental control. I set the Asus as the AP only which boosts the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz speed but there is significant 2.4ghz interference with the guest's wifi radio from the old netgear.
I was about to buy another router but then I found Padavan's firmware. Now I can get rid of the old netgear and use the Asus as the main router. I am able to control my son's computer and guest's wifi bandwidth. I couldn't resist to send him few bucks to support the development.
I found one problem with connecting the bridge and I don't know where I ask for help. Apparently the Asus RT-N56U can connect to the 5Ghz bridge WNHD3004 but all the PCs that are connected to the bridge couldn't obtain the Ip address unless I manually set it.
Thang.

Seriously, any suggestions for this issue? I've tried a few different firmware versions, I've tried doing a factory restore. It's insane sometimes, pinging google gets me 3,000+ms ping and constant dropouts. Please, any advice or settings to alter would be very useful.

It sounds like frequency interference, and not the firmware itself. The reboot will initiate a rescan of the frequencies (2.5 and 5 GHz) and the router will find the cleanest channel at that time. You might have to get some software to run on your computer to scan all the channels to find the cleanest and hard set the cleanest in the router. (I can't remember the name of the software you can run, it's been a while since I needed to use it).

One other thing, go to the 2.5 and the 5 GHz settings pages, and at the very bottom of the page, make sure you select the proper region code (USA, Taiwan, Europe, Japan, Debug) for your location. If I remember it defaults to Europe which will cause issues if you are in the USA.

I live in a very rural area. There are only 2 wifi SSIDs that I can see at home, they are on channel 1 and channel 6. My Home SSID and Store SSID are both on channel 11. Region is also set to USA.

It might also be worth nothing that I have 5GHz not broadcasting entirely, because we don't have enough devices that are compatible.

So I don't think it's either of those issues.

Again, I can't remember the name of the software you can run to analyze your Wi-Fi (someone help me here), but you might be surprised at what you might find using the various frequencies (intentional, and non-intentional). Even a lowly garage door opener might create interference.

For grins-and-giggles, turn on the 5GHz and see what happens. Even if you don't have any devices that can use it. Who knows you might have found a bug that if the 5GHz is off, the 2.4 GHz is affected.

Are you saying there's a program to scan for frequency interference beyond scanning for other local wifi networks? o_O The thing is, this router is sitting where we've used 2 other routers in the past. It's in the same exact spot and this issue has only happened with this current router running Padavan.

I tried this. It seems changing a setting kicked something in the router into gear, because my pings dropped to <20ms, but after a few minutes it went back to the ridiculousness you can see in this screenshot. (Pinging the router itself has essentially the same ping times and dropouts as pinging Google)

SIfQ5MG.png

Also worth nothing that when I'm getting a good connection and then suddenly everything craps up, there's nothing in the router log that indicates any changes.

I love the way this firmware looks and acts, but this is a very very debilitating issue. Nothing seems to be able to fix it, so I really just think I'm going to have to try another option if I can't handle this soon. Does anybody know of another stable firmware that will run on the RT-N56U that will enable me to have a seperate Private and Guest AP with complete isolation from one another?

Did you check the memory and CPU status when it is slow? what is the lease time for DHCP clients?

The CPU is usually around 5% when it's slow and there's 100MB+ of RAM free. The DHCP lease time is 1,800 sec.

Also, sometimes when it's this slow and timing out, I'll try to disconnect and I'll be unable to even connect a device to the router. I'm actually experiencing it right now. I can't think of anything that changed within the past ten minutes to make it suddenly just crap out. I'm at a total loss.

I assumed you schedule to turn on and off the guest wifi.
when it slows down like that, do you have to reboot the router or you just turn off then turn on the radio only? if the later then you can schedule to turn off the radio a short period for example as the workaround.
Mine is running great but I don't have that many guest clients.

A simple question: Have you tried the "factory default" button, then resetting the admin password and seeing if things improve (keep as many defaults as possible)?

After months of flawless operation, my n65 is now kernel panicking extremely frequently. I haven't touched any settings, except to turn on the watchdog, which even fails to kick in sometimes, requiring a hard reset. It was pretty warm yesterday, so figuring it might be overheating, I cracked open the case and threw a fan on top to see if it would help. As well, I removed the usb stick I was using (entware), all to no avail. Sometimes, I can catch the kernel panic via syslog or kmsg. Sometimes, it just flat out goes dead. Here's what I was able to catch on separate instances:

Code:

Do the typical restore - unplug it for 30 seconds, restore defaults, see whether it works nicely. The panics typically indicate hardware malfunction such as memory going bad. It might also be due to the plug - I've had 2 routers that went dead only to discover it was the plug that had a capacitor bursting out. Some however had additional issues as the capacitor was acting out before dying and the router went all crazy.
If nothing works, try switching to a different hardware. If that fails (it likely will) see whether you can send it in warranty...

Guys, could you point me how to configure two printers via USB hub? Router saw printers but p910nd service was created only for first printer. What should be changed in config to create one more p910nd service?

Thanks

So, very close to getting OpenVPN to run on the latest firmware(RT-N56U_3.4.3.9-095 trmd) for a N56U, however something isn't right.

I think there might be an issue with the certificate that I've got from my VPN provider.
Then I read this on a blog entry :

"Padavan has just made available new custom firmware packages targeted at some of ASUS's routers, which update OpenSSL to v1.0.1k and miniupnpd to 1.9.20141209, add static ARP binds control from DHCP server, as well as several other changes.
To be clear about this release, the developer has provided firmware version 3.4.3.9.091 suitable for ASUS RT-N11P, RT-N14U, and RT-N56U wireless devices, and updated package 3.0.3.9.091 supported by ASUS’s RT-N65U routers.

Now, to continue with the changelog, this new update adds the ability to generate HTTPS and OpenVPN server certificates from WebUI, as well as to export client.ovpn config file, and it includes 802.3az EEE compatibility for the MT7620 embedded Ethernet switch."

How do we go about generating these certificates?
And where's the atypical shell command that we are used to from DD-WRT GUIs?

For reference the most simple directions were here (which I found after I had done every thing via scripts the hard way)
http://www.codyhiar.com/blog/vpn-all-your-traffic-with-asus-rt-n56u-padavan-private-internet-access/

My current settings - includes manual DNS Google servers 8.8.8.8 etcetc
and disabled SPI/firewall.

I then do a reboot and my IP has not changed.
