Would you buy a GT-5300 if merlin supported it?

I'm after that router mainly because of the USB performance, but won't touch it due to the reported stability issues. I'm assuming that would be fixed through Merlin.

If Merlin did decide to support this router one day, I'm sure it'd be good. But you have to remember, ASUS has to get their mind right first. If they don't get it right on their end, Merlin can't do anything without the bits from them. And it seems like it's slow going. Since Merlin doesn't support this router, you'd have to depend on ASUS.

Me working on this model would not solve any of your problems folks. Most reported issues are related to the switch ports (closed source) and wifi (closed source).

just hope asus fixes the issues before the release a new unit.

In the beginning, I was drooling over this router and would've bought one. But the 400 tag was a huge kick in the gut. Then no Merlin support made it an auto no buy for me and my friends who use Merlin themselves and were eyeing this model. Third, was the fact that the GT-5300 still seems to have major issues software wise, turning a otherwise promising unit into junk. And I'm not in position or mood to tinker these days.

Fourth, you consider Merlin dove into 86U development as fast as he could and it's proved to be a nice piece of kit for the price. I'd be buying one of those instead and recommending that to any who need a upgrade.

Sad to see such a router pushed aside by the manufacturer. Still, maybe in another 4-6 years after my then new 86U is in need of replacement, there will be another GT series that Merlin will support and will blow the current model away.
try $700 i was inlove with it before it was relased after reading the issues with it and the price tag i became deeply saddend, the thing is i was looking at a replacement for my 88u since im gving it to my relatives who are in dire need of a router since the isp unit is purely hopless mabye merlin might support the AX 88u, which i hope has a quad core cpu hopefully it will be worth while purchasing considering my current 88u has ben extremly solid in reliablity and preformance cant complain, but it will be going to a good home. The only thing that lures me to the 86u is the full cone nat.

Even though I just bought this 5300 I would buy yet another ASUS router if I knew it would have RMerlin and ASUS support for a reasonably long time to come and it would need to perform exceptionally well. Is there an ASUS router model that meets these criteria that I can buy today? If so, exactly which model is it? I will throw away this 5300 and 3200 (or give one to RMerlin if he wants one) if there is a better option available to me. I would *love* to hear an answer to this, especially directly from RMerlin (hint hint :)).

I cannot predict what are Asus's plans in terms of support for their models.

just wondering how many people would buy a gt-5300 if merlin decided to support it, keep in mind this is just me being qurious, about who else other than my self would buy one if the senario stated above was true.
I bought a used one off Ebay about 240 bucks

and of course we ought to provide gt-ac5300 to rmerlin, in fact I would donate 20 bucks or so. And you gotta look at the source gpl code, not even anywhere close.

Sigh. At least I got a script that can install entware on it

And one could fork the software if you want features bad enough. Biggest thing missing for me are the start / stop scripts. Also reconfigure script stuff.

I voted no as if these issues are in closed source binary's then RMerlin would not be able to address them.
