Hi there, I have had a search and can't find the answer in the forum. I am now officially the IT Support guy with the lowest daily rate ever, no money for 10 days work :)

I have an R8000 configured to Merlin AC3200. When I attach the WAN cable and a LAN to my LT, I get internet but I can't see the GUI for Merlin. If I also connect to WIFI I can see the GUI. Looking at the Network MAP, it shows WAN disconnected.

When I then look at the ports connected, it shows the 2 LAN cables connected but no WAN. The WAN appears connected if I attach the cable to LAN1 but then there is no internet. Obviously misconfigured so I have restarted, hard reset and used my limited knowledge to mess about to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You are running MerlinWRT on a Netgear????

Thanks, I had no idea. I was running DDWRT but couldn't find a decent load so tried Fresh Tomato, not supported by VPN provider who advised to load Merlin so I did. I will await the searchlights and police helicopter

Do whatever you want, but follow the forum rules. You won't get any support here.

And that's just fine and I fully support that stance.

But maybe...don't be so judgmental that there is some criminal activity going on or that i am deliberately breaking forum rules. I have a VPN that I am trying to make work on a router and have followed the advice given by the provider. I wouldn't recognize a software fork or a logical port if I tripped over one. SO maybe have a bit of empathy, it might not improve your day but it would improve mine.

@SChnowzer, don't think anyone was being judgmental. They simply pointed you to the stickied/forum forum post from the developer of the Asus-Merlin firmware. It is that firmware developer who is indicating it may be (or is) illegal to use Asus-Merlin firmware on non Asus router and why. It appears you were given poor advice by the VPN provider who told you to try using a different manufacturer's firmware not explicitly designed for your Netgear router.

It should also be noted that in the stickied/tacked [FAQ] READ ME FIRST before posting a question post in this same subforum it explicitly indicates the following (second set of Q/A's in the first post):
Q: Will you support router XYZ from this non-Asus manufacturer?
A: No. Asuswrt-Merlin only targets Asus-supported models, due to both technical and legal reasons.

Generally those stickied/tacked threads are there to help the new users or people new to the forum/subforum.
