New Around Here
Hi, I currently use several 8 port and 24 port switches in my house.
I use HP ProCurve 1810G 24 and 8 port switches, which are reasonably priced, web managed, and fan-less.

I am building a new house, and I want to deploy security cameras and access points using PoE.

I am looking for 8 port and 24 port web managed, gigabit switches, with PoE, and fiber SFP ports, but they must be quiet.

I looked at the NetGear GS110TP 8-port switch, it is fan-less, and looks pretty good.

I also looked at the NetGear GS724TP 24-port switch, but in reading the reviews, it apparently has 2 very loud fans, eliminating it from use in a house.

The HP ProCurve PoE switches are quite expensive, e.g. the J9299A 2520-24G-PoE, and if I understand correctly these are quite old re-branded 3Com models.

What would you recommend for; quiet operation; web managed; gigabit; PoE, 8 and 24 port, with SFP ports, reasonably new models, at a reasonable price?

P.

The J9299A 2520-24G-PoE looks like their standard Procurve equipment and not the 3COM stuff.

Could be wrong. Either way, it's running HP firmware and has their support now.

Howdy,
If you can wait.... the new POE+ models will be showing up shortly. They give you a lot more options with regards to powering devices. A lot of the new camera's are coming thru needing more than what 802.3af is listing.

Are you referring to new HP ProCurve models?
When will they be released?

Howdy,
All manufacturers are coming out with them. I would expect the Trendnet TPE-T80 POE+ to be at a nice pricepoint. The HP procurve would probably be 3x the price... The reason is this... standard 802.11af was getting a little dated... new things have come into the world thru tech advances. Such as a new PTZ (pan tilt zoom)camera takes more juice to run the motors and such. The new standard is 802.11at which then gives each poe+ device up to 30 watts.

All the new type 802.11at POE+ switches are starting to show up.
