No need with RMerlin firmware and the scripts we have available!

If you not tested THIS! Do it!!!

Pi-hole is excellent, but you need a separate device to run it on. Not necessarily RPi4. Any RPi, even Zero W. It runs even better combined with Unbound DNS Resolver.

Diversion is also excellent, but for its specific purpose to run on a router. Far from Pi-hole capabilities, interface and ease of use though.

Are you running Unbound (on router) and Pi based Pi-hole or both Unbound and Pi-hole on the Pi?

The graphs are nice but what super capabilities does pi-hole has and Diversion doesn't have? They are both dns ad blockers no? I couldn't see any advantages using pi-hole on a PC must faster the RPi

what is Diversion? it runs on Merlin?
Router Ad-Blocker script for Asuswrt-Merlin

used to run the RPI 4 along with Pihole, right now have been running AdGuard on the RPI4 for about 1 month now
both do the same thing - Ad-Blocker

I would run Unbound on RPi with Pi-hole. Why to load the router more for no reason if the RPi is available anyway? I'm running pfSense. Unbound is the default resolver there. pfBlockerNG package is the IP and DNS blocker in pfSense. Much more advanced than what's available for Merlin.

It can be your DNS Resolver, DHCP Server, everything is GUI, you can assign blocking list categories, separate blocking list per device if you want to, whitelisting is 1 click away, your DNS query log per device is there, few week back if you want to, stats per device, per DNS query, per blocking frequency. Whatever you want to see. It can be used as network monitoring tool. Check version 5.0 and above (current 5.1.1), there are many changes.
