Hi

@juanantonio, I have a question, when you use MF8331U1 with your Asus router which handle the public IP, router or modem?
I also use a 4G modem to provide the Internet access with an Asus Router with Merlin firmware. Now I use a Huawei E3372 in stick mode to handle the public IP in the Asus router but it connects with PPP and the network bandwidth is limited. I'm looking for a best 4G USB modem.

Regards.

Well, the router gets a private, non-routable IP, in the range of 192.168.0.x, so the modem is handling the public IP.

I'm using my MF833U1 in a location where I haven't fiber connection, but the mobile coverage is good, and I'm getting connection speed peaks around 140 MBit/s.

Regards.

Thanks! It's the information I needed. I want a public IP address managed by Asus router, then I can access router and other LAN devices from Internet. How you solve it? Setting a VPN client in the Asus router behind the 4G modem?

I can't think of any other alternatives.

Regards.

Well, at home I have a RT-AX86U, inside it I have a Wireguard VPN server and I can access it from Internet, but I need DDNS configured to do so. I had to ask my ISP to take me out from CG-NAT first. In this configuration, the router has the public IP as it is connected directly to fiber.

In my second home, I have a RT-AC86U getting its connection through ZTE-MF833U1. In this case, I haven't asked my ISP to take me out of CG-NAT, because I don't need to access it from outside, so I don't know if it is accesible from outside. I cannot even ping my public IP because this thing of CG-NAT.

Nevertheless, I have DDNS configured and its daemon is capable to update public IP, as you can see on the following log line:

Code:
Jul 2 20:24:39 inadyn[1865]: Update forced for alias calipso.ddns.net, new IP# 79.116.110.72

I think you should ask anyone else to ensure you can access you router through DDNS from outside using MF833U1. Sorry for not being very helpful about that.

Regards.

Hi,

Currently, I'm using @Martineau Wireguard Session Manager on my RT-AX86U.

I configured it with the invaluable help of @ZebMcKayhan and now I'm able to access my entire LAN from outside, pointing Wireguard VPN clients to my router's public IP via DDNS.

But this router is connected to fiber and not behind a 4G modem. My RT-AC86U, which is in my town's home, is.

As I told you in my previous post, you should ask anyone else because I suspect my 4G sim (the one my 4G modem has) is behind CG-NAT and I wouldn't be able to access it from outside via DDNS.

If it wasn't, I could confirm that, but my ISP bills me 1€/month for supressing CG-NAT, and I don't need this service at all at my town's home.

Regards.
