Region-unlocking DNS filter

Numerous fixes and enhancements were made to DNSFilter, including the ability to specify your own custom DNS. You can use this to force your media devices to use a region-unlocking DNS filter for instance. New built-in services were also added, and IPv6-enabled connections should no longer bypass filtering.

Can someone explain what a region-unlocking DNS filter is and how to use it with this firmware?

A region unlocking DNS service will allow you to access sites you normally would not be able to. For example, if you're located in the US you'll only be able to access Netflix servers within that region(US). But with a re-directing service you'll be able to access sites around the globe. Suppose you want to watch content that's only on Netflix Sweden, with a redirecting service you can do that. They can also be used to access sites within your region that are otherwise blocked due to a particular service wanting you to use a particular site or client software that decides which site is "best" to connect to even if it results in an inferior connection.

Below are links to 2 outfits that provide DNS re-directing/un-blocking.

As far as how to set it up I haven't upgraded to the latest firmware yet so I don't have any experience with it. I doubt that it's very difficult though, RMerlin firmware is pretty self-explanatory.
