The changelog is something related to Qos and something more that i coud not understand, it`s in chinese in the first link i posted

I uploaded here at my GT, it`s working fine, but i still have the DLNA bug that instead of keep the HD idle keep it scanning
 
Given the various issues with this router. “Working fine” does not convey much information. What is working now that was not before? Thanks!
Went from 20311 to 20467. No issues after 4 days, at least on my config (Qos, parental control, Link aggregation, IPTV)
Gui feels faster.
I don't use it in Aimesh mode though.
I just was able to get this version.
 
Hey guys, today my router just stopped working. I tried doing a hard reset with the software on windows, however, that did not fix the issue either. The router just died, the WiFi won’t start up, so hard to do the hard reset via Ethernet; no dice.

This has to be the buggiest router I’ve ever bought. And this just happened all of a sudden. I just decided to do a reboot for no particular reason, and bam! I’m no longer getting any WiFi. Even with Ethernet, you cannot see anything on 192.168.1.1.

So yeah, returning it today. This is the latest of problems along with weird malfunctions such as the router forgetting the credentials of openvpn on reboot.

That's not a hard reset. Press the reset button on the back of the router.
For firmware recovery, unplug it, hold reset whilst plugging it in.

Still, I wouldn't blame you for returning it; it still has problems.
Did exactly that. The power LED starts flashing slowly, and then you have to use the software utility to do the reset. It did not work, still cannot get WiFi to work; doesn’t even turn on.
 
Did you try Asus restore utility?

Yes, I did. The restore utility was successful, but nothing was fixed. I had the same issue which was that the router was not even booting up. I returned it yesterday, and got a RT-AC86U, which works fine for my current purposes.
 
Just picked up the GT5300 and 2 AC86u's. Aimesh was easy to setup with the GT doing the routing and the 2 86u's as Aimesh nodes. It's been working well for the last 48 hours plus.

On the setup side, it's a 3 story home with the GT5300 in the basement (can't move it as my internet connection goes here), 1 86u wired on the main floor and another 86u wireless on the top floor in the open hallway. I also have my 5300 using 1 SSID as that's the way I want it setup. So the 2.4 and two 5Ghz channels are using the same SSID and password. Want to keep it this way.

My questions are:

Replace one of the 86u's with another 5300? Thinking of the top floor hallway because I would think the 5300 has more powerful antenna coverage than the 86u. The 86u in the hallway is wireless, not wired like the main floor 86u, so the thinking is that the 5300 would be more powerful upstairs for antenna coverage.

Don't want to move an 86u as the main router as it's good to have the memory and horsepower of the 5300 doing the main routing.

Also, would a tri-band node be better in Aimesh than the dual band of the 86u? How can backhaul work if the 86u's don't have the extra band? Would I get backhaul with another 5300 even though I would still have 1 86u in the mix?

Let me know about what you would do - if anything.

I wouldn't expect the GT-AC5300 to have much better coverage than the RT-AC86U. They should be fairly similar, the main difference being the additional 5 GHz radio.

I guess I just want to believe that the GT5300, with 8 massive external antenna, would get much better range than the 86u with 3 internal and 3 external.

Any advantage to adding another 86u in wireless? So I'd have basement/5300 and 2 86u main and 1 86u upstairs or 1 86u main and 2 86u upstairs at opposite ends of the house for the floor that I would locate 2 at. Or, do you get to the point of diminishing returns where you might actually make things worse with overlapping Aimesh nodes.

Also, the iOS app is not reporting the wired devices in the Devices list for ALL or Aimesh. On the Home page though, where the Wheel/Circle gives you data - it reports them there. Asus apparently is aware of this.

And, why does the iOS Asus app have an apparent issue with logging into the Router remotely. It seems like it keeps trying the local connection first and just sits at "Connection failed (Local)" without flipping to the DDNS remote address. I end up having to come out and back into the application for it to work but sometimes I have to launch the app a few times before it flips to the remote DDNS connection. Otherwise, it just sits trying to connect locally.
 
Coverage-wise - when I replaced my AC68U with a fancy new GT-AC5300 I gained no additional coverage on UNI-I channels. Maybe borderline better, but nothing significant. And it makes sense to be like this: there's no way to work around physics.
I'm in Europe and having 2 5GHz radio allowed me to have one of them on UNI-II where maximum power is nearly 4 times compared to UNI-I. Devices supporting those channels benefits of better coverage, but that's a corner case. If you're in US you already have stronger maximum power allowed so you'll see no benefit whatsoever.

Regarding your setup: a node connected wirelessly to router would benefit a 2nd 5GHz radio. It will use one radio for backhaul and the other channel will be entirely free for clients. Capacity increase won't be much better, but definitely better than when clients and backhaul are competing for the same radio channel.
I'm not saying it's and expense worth making - I would rather spend that cash to run an ethernet cable if is not impossible.

So, if my wireless node is changed to a 5300 from the 86u, I benefit with a dedicated backhaul channel? And, this would be the case even if I'm using one SSID (which I'm currently using & don't wish to change) for my Aimesh setup? If that's the case, then there is a benefit to gain that 5Ghz dedicated backhaul. So, the backhaul only comes into play for wireless nodes and not wired ones then? Would this backhaul channel then be established between my main wired 5300 doing the routing/DHCP and the new Aimesh 5300 node that I would put into place upstairs. And my currently wired 86u Aimesh node does not need and will not have to use the backhaul because it's wired?

Now, whether the performance gained is worth the price difference between 1 86u for a GT5300 is the real question. Does not hurt for me to try as I can always go back during the products return policy. And, I'm somehow convinced that the 5300 has to have much better antenna coverage than the 86u but I guess we'll see.
 
Hi guys, just changed IPS to gigabit speed. Getting 1GB + Up/Down on LAN however on wifi something seems wrong. The 5.0 "gaming" band is giving me slower speeds than the regular 5.0 band(which I have about 5 devices on). I'm using a mid 2012 MacBook Air to test the "gaming" band. QOS/game mode disabled as I heard it hurts overall performance, is that correct? Game IPS is enabled however. Aside from that everything else is default I believe. Latest firmware. And its a significant difference like 600 down (5.0) vs 300 down (gaming 5.0)... Looking for some solutions and advice please!
EDIT: cat 6 directly from ONT to router btw, any other info needed just ask!

It only has more antennas because it has more radios to broadcast. They do not have any impact on coverage, it's still limited to 4 antennas per radio, and a client can only connect to one radio.

The RT-AC86U has 1 internal and 3 external, that's not a big difference.

Overlap will decrease performance rather than increase it, due to interference.

Personally I would go for an RT-AC68U or RT-AC66U_B1 for the extra APs, since you most likely don't need four streams (very few do), and you definitely won't need the extra CPU power while operating as APs or nodes.

Test with just one GT-AC5300 in the basement and an RT-AC68U in the middle floor - you will see how it works out. I've been able to cover two floors with lowly RT-N12 in the past for some customers, it will depend on your physical layout.
