Also under Professional? I'm thinking things like Airtime Fairness, Bluetooth Coex, Beamforming...etc
No.. I haven't checked to see if both are the same under Professional.. I really never change anything in there but to enable/disable the radio.

I’ve just returned an XT8 because of similar 2.4GHz problems. Crazy ping times - normally 2-4msecs but bursts every few secs out to 800msecs with nothing connected to the router. Also seemed to mess with 5GHz bands. Like you, big improvement when 2.4 turned off but lose Guest, of course. ASUS Support said “hardware”. Just replaced XT8 with AX92U and similar issue but not as bad; pings out to 100msecs. No other routers close, no Dect nearby (>8m). What do others see with pings - stable or is the above normal (or just “normal’ for ASUS)?

I’m seeing similar 2.4GHz ISS uses with strange ping times Even with everything disconnected from the router. Any ideas what “user error(s)“ might cause this, please? Thx, Paul
Well Paul, why don't you start your own 2.4 issue thread and have some folks trouble shoot it. Most likely your don't have the same problem and having two user issues in one thread causes confusion.

This thread started way back Jan 6th. Then Jan 8th all was well. Then all of a sudden, Jan 28 all is not well and we now have another router in the mix. Surprise! It has the same problem! What are the odds! The odds say User Error.
If we go way back to before "all was well", it was suggested that the OP post his complete network setup, etc. That never happened and still hasn't, so it's really all just a guessing game all over again.

OK, will do; thank you.

What happens if you turn of the 5GHz radio?

Sorry ATLga.. when I "all was well" was because I ended up disabling 2.4 radio and using the old Netgear to transmit the 2.4 signal.. I kind of gave up at that point and figured I just needed a new router.
I am still testing a few things and driving myself crazy ( and the wife too lol).. connecting/disconnecting the internet...flashing, resetting.. haha... we'll see what happens.

What happens if you turn of the 5GHz radio?
that 5ghz is fine.. it appears the issue is when both of them are ON at the same time.. it has to be some sort of interference...but what?????
Sometimes it starts working ok.. then a few minutes later it starts to mess up... so it has to be interference.. I just need to find out what it is.

Could Apple airpods interfere with wifi signal?

EDIT...
but the issue is that if it was interference...why doesn't if affect the 2.4 signal on the Netgear router?
They are next to each other... not broadcasting at the same time... I just mean they are at the same location.

Yes, but what happens when the 5GHz is off? If it's interference then the 2.4 GHz will work fine when the 5GHz is off.

Bluetooth can definitely interfere with 2.4 GHz Wifi. So can USB 3.0. Do you have a device plugged in to the USB 3 port? Also, home automation hubs like Zigbee operate on 2.4 GHz too and can interfere.

What's your 2.4 GHz channel width?

I'm suspicious of a USB 3 device plugged into the Asus since that would explain the local effect.

I have no USB 3.0 or any USB for that matter plugged into the router.
I use channel 1,6 or 11 on 20mhz.

But my son does have Apple airpods and you can't really turn those off unless when the battery is completely drained.
I asked about the Airpods because I believe the issue starts getting worse after my son gets home from school... So I kind of putting 2&2 together.
But at the same time, that issue is not present when using Netgear's 2.4 wifi...so there's that.

Netgear 2.4ghz + Asus 5ghz = good
Asus 2.4 + 5ghz = issues.. high ping and crappy speeds.

Tested and confirmed many, many times.

Why are you resisting turning off 5GHz? Now I'm curious.

What is your Bluetooth Coexistence set at under 2.4, wireless, professional? Try enable or pre-emptive if its disabled.

***UPDATE***

I flashed the new wrtMerlin 386.1 on both AC86U and AC68P and setup Aimesh and everything seems to be working great!
Finally, smooth video stream of security cameras...great speeds... low ping... and most important....wife is happy - No more internet interruptions!

I think we can close this one.. I don't know exactly what the issue was before.. but at this point. who cares.. it seems to be fixed and I ain't complaining lol.
Thanks guys for the help!
