The antennae are designed for a certain frequency, of course, but I think in your case, the overall interference pattern just matched your environment (for your repeater AP, at least).
Signal strength is not an indication of better throughput (the final goal), but it is interesting to think about.
I may have to try this if I have the chance too.
I forgot to mention, I tested only the lower 5Ghz channels (36-48), not the upper ones off of 5G-1. If I were to guess, that channel is much lower priority for hardware design because of the weaker power it puts out. Also, I noticed that the lower bands are much more powerful than the Apple TC I was using. In terms of performance and off the initial benchmarks, the lower channels (specifically 40) had best performance for actual throughput. I basically used an external HD off my USB 3.0 on the 3200 and checked to see what pushed the most data through fastest. When I set that up, I didn't adjust the antenna yet.
When it comes to testing, just use the 66U and swap all three. I'd be interested to see how each of the channels perform and what these are designed for.
