I have a RT-AC66U connected to my cable modem. If I want internet access for my desktop that is i another room, am I better of getting the RT-AC66U as access point or get the PCE-AC66 PCIx wireless adapter? Will there be a speed different?

Also, I supposed the RT-AC66U can be used as a access point, and as wireless repeater at the same time. As a repeater, does it operate on different protocol? That is, connect to the router using 801.11ac, and to other devices as 801.11n. I hope this can be done so that I don't have to pay the penalty of losing 50% of the wireless bandwidth; 801.11ac, is more then twice the speed of 801.n.
