The SSID change forces the client to create a new connection with optimized settings for the new drivers and / or driver settings.

Deleting or forgetting the connection would do the same thing? I mean for simplicity of not having to reset up 50 devices to access your network again. Just to test if that's the issue.

How much info is saved in the network connection on a device? I though just the name, what security is set and the code to connect.

For a single device, sure, it would be equivalent.

But if you have to do that to another 49 devices anyways, it is easier to use a new ssid.

Not sure what info is saved, but it is more than name and security as indicated by RMerlin many times.

I have not been here long enough to have seen the many times. Will search for it.

I don't know what else is stored, but I've had first hand experience with this back when Asus were trying to work out the compatibility issues with Intel-based wireless cards. When they finally issued a new firmware that had a fixed driver, my laptop was still unable to connect, until I deleted and reconfigured the wireless profile on my laptop. At that point, both Asus and I concluded that Windows stores some additional low-level information along with a configured profile. It wouldn't surprise me if it was also the case with mobile devices, so it's best not to overlook this possibility.
