I have an Asus RT-AC66U and while I want to love, I have come to hate it. It is very slow on both bands but the 5gHZ band is the worst. Everything from my android phones, laptops and media devices suffer drop outs. I am running the latest version of the ASUS firmware and I still have the issues. I consider myself to be above average on the technical ability side. I work as a computer forensic agent and terrible shooting network issues comes with the territory. I have eliminated all other issues as the culprits and I am pretty sure that the issue is with the router. Has anyone else experienced these issues and what have you done to correct them?

This is a common problem with the AC66U. Have you noticed that when you reboot your router or apply the settings on the 5GHz setup that your speeds go back to normal? I had this problem myself and tried all of the official ASUS firmwares and other recommendations I could find with no luck. At most the speeds would last a day after rebooting and then the link speed would drop very low. I also tried a few versions of Merlin's firmware with no success. Finally, I did a factory reset and installed Merlin's 3.0.0.4.374.35_4 firmware. I haven't had to reboot the router now in 2 weeks and it is working perfectly.
