i have DHCP enabled and i am assigning ip adresses by using a MAC address table.

This works and every connected client(wired and wirelss) shows up with it's correct name under Client Status

however when i look under wireless log i see a couple of devices with assigned ip addresses but with no name behind it.

These devices have a name setup which is not empty
so either the name from the device is used or the name from the mac address table
in this case a third option seems to be used which is empty.

eg
Foscam camera name inside device:Foscam1
name in the mac address :Foscam1
info showed in wireless log(MAC address XX):

XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX 192.168.1.99 -53dBm ??/65 Mbps 00:52:07 AU

it should be like this(which i have with al the other devices)
XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX 192.168.1.99 Foscam1 -53dBm ??/65 Mbps 00:52:07 AU

so why is it not showing a name

i have this problem with a foscam camera and hp wifi printer

Clients always have the option of ignoring any hostname provided by a DHCP query, and use their own (or not use any) hostname.

Thanks

i get the ignoring part but why a client would choose not to broadcast it's name while it has an option inside to change the name to anything logical beats me

Some devices simply don't give themselves any hostname.
