RT-AC68U new firmware 3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02

As posted in the TM-AC1900 thread:

My RT-AC3100 is on f/w version 3.0.0.4.384_20379-gc0714df and my RT-AC68U's (2xTM-AC1900, 1xRT-AC68U) are on f/w version 3.0.0.4.384_20308-gead790e.

I have no notification of a f/w update/upgrade available on my main router. Where did this f/w version come from? Maybe the RT-AC3100 didn't get a new f/w?

I did a forced check and nothing was returned. As of right now I am going to stay put until this is all hammered out.

No issues here with AiMesh and this firmware.

One thing I did notice is FA is back that was missing on the previous firmware.

It seems that people who converted from T-Mobile TM-AC68U are having issues. They should hold off on updating until this problem is solved.

I have a current 2xRT-AC86U AiMesh plus an offline/spare non-T-Mobile 68U node...

I powered up the spare 68U node to see how AiMesh would perform this firmware update. Checking and upgrading seemed to go ok... the 68U went offline, upgraded, and returned online. The GUI node status refreshed automatically.

But then the 86U router GUI displayed the flashing ! alert. When I clicked on the flashing !, the firmware download pop-up repeated a download. Meanwhile, the 68U remained online. When this mystery download completed, the flashing ! remained.

So then I clicked on the router firmware version in the GUI header and again the firmware download pop-up repeated a download. And again the 68U remained online. When this mystery download completed, the flashing ! remained.

So then I clicked on Reboot in the GUI header. The router rebooted, LEDs previously turned OFF now turned ON, and the flashing ! was gone. I looked under Administration/Firmware and all seemed up-to-date. I checked and found no upgrades available. (For some reason, the listed node order changed from 86U, 68U to 68U, 86U.)

Now for the weird part ... I was streaming TuneIn radio from my Nexus 7 2013 (non-cellular) to my AVR via BT... and it never stopped streaming... not until I powered down the spare 68U node to put it back on the shelf. The tablet had roamed to the 68U node which was about 4 feet closer and lower than the router node.

When I powered down the 68U, the streaming stopped and the tablet could not complete re-connecting... it was stuck on getting an IP. So, I forgot the connection and re-entered the passphrase and it connected right up. I trust this client connection issue is not related to the mystery firmware download issue.

Yes, TM-AC1900 users should hold off updating to this firmware if they have or want to use AiMesh. It appears the CFE is getting changed or updated during the firmware update and that is what is potentially causing AiMesh to be deactivated in the firmware.

Are you saying it killed AiMesh on a "real" RT-AC68P??? That's downright malicious!

If that's the case it's rogue f/w and there's hope yet for flashed TM-AC1900's!

It looks like my RT-AC68P gets the CFE updated from 1.0.2.5 to 1.0.2.9, and this kills AiMesh.

The RT-AC68P and RT-AC68U V2 both use 1.0.2.5

After upgrade the router in my sig updated to 1.0.2.9 and as I posted earlier in this thread AiMesh still works just fine.

So your router wasn't a TM-AC1900?

It appears only the TM-AC1900's are being affected by the loss of AiMesh when updating to the latest firmware. Edit to add: One can flash the TM router to mimic a AC68U or AC668P router.

Yes, but the person you were replying intially to stated; "It looks like my RT-AC68P gets the CFE updated from 1.0.2.5 to 1.0.2.9, and this kills AiMesh." If one flashes a TM router to mimic the AC68P (like I did), one looses the AiMesh option with this firmware. It wasn't clear if you had a TM router flashed to AC68U or not, which I suspect another poster was getting at when they asked you "On a TM-AC1900?". Edit: I see the other person indicated they didn't see the tag line.

RT-AC68P and RT-AC68U V2 use the same cfe 1.0.2.5

Basically the same router.

But not when one uses a 1.0.2.5 CFE on a TM router which then mimic's the AC68P....

It all comes down to if one is using a TM router or not with this new ASUS firmware. If your using an ASUS router your fine. Use a TM router you will likely have problems (as I and others found out).
