RT-AC68U repeater bridge??

Von's

New Around Here
Is it possible to set up 2 RT-AC68U's in a AP and repeater bridge mode in Merlin? I've looked at the wiki for DDwrt and got really fed up with reading 4 detailed paragraphs on how to set it up then there is a paragraph stating that this is all obsolete and link to another page that basically does the same thing! I've ran DDwrt on a few of my older routers but there is just to much conflicting information now on there wiki.

I have not tested it as a Repeater but see the option here:
Advanced Settings-Administration > Operation Mode (tab) > Repeater Mode >
There is also AP Mode but that requires tethered Ethernet connectivity to existing network.

Bridge is available here:
Advanced Settings-Wireless > WDS (tab) > AP Mode (radio button)
This reduces throughput to 50% up, 50% down and does not support WPA2.

In the environment I am in, I had success replacing the antennas on the RT-AC68U to 3 x 9dBi 2.4GHz 5GHz Dual Band antennas. The improved TX/RX capability and placing it in a more central location (both of which I could accommodate in the environment) have worked very well.

I am not dealing with any 24"/61cm stone walls or interference.

I did it with a AC66 as an AP and a AC68 in repeater mode and it worked, about 8-10 months ago, but I had a Samsung TV at the end trying to watch Amazon Prime and I could not keep a connect up on it so I gave up and ran a long wire to a switch. The TV had Wifi but it would drop Amazon Prime too, not quite as bad. Once it was on my Ethernet the TV worked fine, but this was mostly due to my limited internet connection at the time.

I'm not dealing with any connectivity issues, my router is about 100 yards away from the repeater and they connect very well with no drops at all.

I started this out with a stock RT-AC68U router in the house and a T-Mobile TM-AC1900 in my shop, the TM-AC1900 was setup as a media bridge, I had my computer and a Magic Jack plugged into the LAN ports and had setup a 2.4ghz wireless network for the shop, everything worked fantastic for about 3 months. came into work on Monday all the LAN ports were working but the wifi had disappeared, no mater what I did would get the media bridge to re-broadcast a signal! my only guess was that T-Mobile possibly had done an auto update and disabled this function???
Long story short I reflashed the TM-AC1900 to a RT-AC68U set it up as a repeater bridge, everything works except my magic jack phone will not connect, I believe the bandwidth might be to slow in this configuration? Any Ideas????

Try Googling 'magicjack firewall ports' it appears you need to open up some UDP ports to get it to work.

Sorry, I am not familiar with Magic Jack. Would placing it in a DMZ to test be worth trying?
