Hi

Bear with me, I am reasonably technically-minded and can navigate around and follow instructions, but I am not any way a Router/Network/IT person.

I have an AC86U as Main router, wired AC68U as an AP, (via Wall Plugs) both running Merlin 384.7_2. Diversion ad-blocker (v4.04) is running on the AC86U although this issue came up before the install. I have about 20 DHCP Reservations (and often leave the network map open - reasons for mentioning this are below). Diversion runs off a 4GB USB Thumb Drive with a Swap File.

If I leave the AC86U WebGui Admin page up on my PC in Chrome for the day or overnight, I invariably can't access the WebGUI Admin page with any of http://192.168.1.1 or https://192.168.1.1:8443. This has happened about five times, now. If I reboot the router again, no problem, straight in using 192.168.1.1, every time.

I read about SSHing into the Router (see https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...ac88u-ac68u-web-ui-always-dead-5323202-2.html) to issue a "killall networkmap" command but this did not work for me. SSH/Putty access worked fine, which suggested all was OK and I reboot the router fine using SSH and "reboot". I have saved a syslog.txt but am a bit worried about posting the whole thing due to DDNS and anything else in there. Happy to supply the parts considered needed though, let me know how I can help?

I have Local Access Config set to BOTH http and https; I am about to try JUST https in desperation but I kinda like the ease of just 192.168.1.1. I don't have remote access enabled.

As far as errors go I only see this and then only when restarting the router (reboot issued via SSH).

Thanks for any help, hope I don't have to go replace the darn thing.

cheers

Apologies could an admin change subject to RT-AC86U; USB is a typo.

known bug, you can SSH and enter this command instead of reboot: service restart_httpd

Hi Grisu, thanks for that,

Could you elaborate on the known bug please, is it a big specific to this router, or one that occurs with specific conditions?

had it first time with 384 firmwares seen on my 68U and 86U, but with recent 32799 only once as far I can remember.

Cheers; surprised it’s not been more widely reported than it has. Is that SSH line a permanent “fix” or does it need to be reissued every reboot, every new firmware or just every router NVRAM reset ?

should be solved sometimes by Asus like many others, its a workaround for now to access GUI again after locked, nothing to do with update, reboot or NVRAM reset, just seen sometimes, I usually get it after changing anything in WiFi settings.
Or in DownloadMaster, this window will hang too after longer time logged in, have to disable DM and reenable to get access again.

Thank you :)
