Had one of my RT-AC86U's stop working after a few months of great operation. Powered off/on but at the boot up point to where the red internet led comes on, unit then powers off. You can repeat this circle as often as you want, until you get bored and stop.
Put router into firmware recovery mode and loaded the latest ASUS firmware, successfully. But alias the same issue afterwards. Also tried Merlin's code, also the same power issue.
Phoned ASUS support, will replace the unit as a known issue. A FYI...if it helps other forums followers.
| Picked up the unit from ASUS repair centre (always a positive experience..BTW..added reason I buy ASUS!). The issue of power off at the Network LED coming on at power up, they advised was 3rd Party firmware caused. They installed the latest level ASUS RT-AC86U firmware and all is ok now.
Prior to me taking the unit into ASUS support I had put unit into recovery mode and restored the same ASUS firmware level, they had installed, yet for me it didn't change the uncontrolled power off, on power up. Puzzled as to why Merlin's 384.5 code and the ASUS 384 code, both codes, in restore mode didn't fix the problem, when ASUS service appear to have done nothing else then what I did. Anyone have ideas?
