hi all!
does anyone know if there are any specific settings I should implement for a wirelesses connection between
88U on fw 382.1-2 and PS4 ?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Never had any problems with PS3 or PS4 on the default settings (apart from choosing a fixed Wi-Fi channel), although I'm not running the same firmware version as you. Are you experiencing a particular problem or is it a general question?

having tried a few isp routers for fifa plus my 2 asus routers....my advice is stay clear of asus if you want good gaming.
which router models did you have issues with, ive had horrid gaming experinces on netgear and dlink units, asus has been smooth with a few quirks.

my isp have a really bad router....but it has better gaming....its the livebox fibra router for orange espana.
i have to run it via dmz to connect the asus on another dhcp subnet.

but for some reason i get slight input delay from the asus yet my opponents are slick as you can get.
when only connected tot he tin can router gameplay is equal.

im not resetting the wan just switching the cable from one router to the other and re doing the ip in the ps4.

its very odd.

thats because your behind a double nat, mac clone the isp unit and place the asus one directly to the fiber box. Or if it functions as a modem but the isp unit in bridge mode then teather the asus behind it.

The asus is in dmz....so not double nat.
Mac clone wont work as its a modem/router box.

Anyway that wouldnt explain the differences between upload and download between the two router.
Forgot to add when i do a network test on the ps4 the tin can shows 45/5 MBs
the asus varies from 12/1 to 35/3 MBs

IMO something has been up with asus for a few years.

What type of connection I'm on vdsl2 and I use a mac clone and a third party modem with my 88u in bridge mode, you could put the ISP unit in bridge mode.

I believe orange espana are dhcp.
Its complicated to stick it in bridge mode because id lose the phone.
Id prefer a modem router setup but id still lose the phone till someone has worked out ow to get the phone working from the modem...

Anyways still doesnt explain why the tin can router gives fairer fifa gaming than the asus....

I technically would lose my phone service but I managed to get the settings from my ISP and I can plug them into an ATA or an ip phone, the Asus is not directly connected to the Internet it's behind another unit, is your internet vdsl or adsl or cable?

I run a double router configuration too, and because of this I got from xbox the message that tells me about limited nat, even if I run UPNP that seems to work normally and even if I put the private Asus's WAN IP onto DMZ on the provider's router. Also, I'm not able to run DDNS with standard firmware.
The DNS issue is not so big for me because my provider gave me a static ip.
But after all I would like to remove the provider's router to speed up connection and reducing electricity bill.
Unfortunately the providers router runs in a mode for which it has a private IP address (10.something) and private gateway but also a loopback with public ip address on which it does nat of everything.
With standard asus firmware was possible to clone the MAC but impossible to fully reproduce that config, is it possible with Merlin 382.1_2?

Thanks in advance

What connection do you have? Dsl cable fiber?

Fiber, but I already bought a fiber to copper adapter and tested it connecting to my PC to run some scans :) it works so if use that device I would be able to bypass the provider's router except for the nat with loopback behavior

Generaly there is a box on the wall if you have fiber, and you can direct connect the router to it. You don't need hairpin nat aka nat loop back for it to work.

With Fastweb this is seemed to be not possible. I write using past because I remember that I tried, but with the pc and obviously windows refused to configure a /32 public ip address with a private ip address as default gateway.
I read also on my provider's forum that the only solution for this configuration (others may have public ip address assigned and public ip address as gateway that makes things much easier) was to buy a router to mod with DD WRT and do some kind of configuration that now I'll search for.

But now, inspired by your words, I tried to do that configuration on the AC88 (IP wan /32 public and gateway on 10.x.x.x) and it seems that it accepted it! I don't know if its the merlin firmware that allow this or it was already possible with stock firmware. I'm very familiar with enterprise routers/firewalls and they will never accept something like this. On some, you'll have to set the default route not using a destination ip but a destination interface relaying on a proxy arp feature to be enabled on the remote device.

Tomorrow I'll dig in basement to find mediaconverter fiber/RJ to do a real test.

Great! :)

if you can directly connect to the wall out let where the fiber terminates to the house with the router, use the mac address from the isp unit and copy it to the mac clone section of the router

Nothing to say more... used as wan the fixed public ip address /32 with 10.x.x.x gateway, cloned the mac address and IT WORKS! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
It has only needed a reboot because after having configured by GUI the ifconfig was still showing the old private wan address, discovered by a ttl reply from a traceroute.
Now I'm curious to check if this behavior (accept /32 wan with 10.x gateway) is accepted also from the stock firmware or only by Merlin. But I'll have to fix the iptables configuration with Skynet first.

Edit: I was too quick to celebrate. After few minutes the network stopped working apparently without reason. I suspect that the provider set up some kind of authentication 802.1x or similar. Have to dig in..
