I'm moving house and upgrading to 900mb direct fiber, I've got an aging AC68U and AX68U Pro, I want the BE88U because of all the ports, but why no wifi6? it seems weird. I mostly use ethernet anyway but if I'm splashing out on a new toy I wanna get the top kit.

I don't want to move away from anything I can use Merlin on, for starters. Been using Asus routers all my life and I'm just, I know how to work em' now so.

Anyway should I just get the BE88U and call it a day, or if I wait a few months are we gonna get some even better stuff coming out?

I guess I'll just use the older routers as repeaters around the house? even though it doesn't really need it anyway (At least not on either of the current ones I have.)

Edit: Also I'm seeing a lot of troubleshooting posts re; the BE88U - is it janky af and not stable or something?

BE88U certainly has wifi 6 (ax).
I have clients happily connected @ n, ax & be.

what router is it i'm confusing it with then? I read a review I thought about the 88u and they were lamenting the lack of actual wifi6 even though it had 7

I think @Zakalwe is referring to the lack of the 6GHz band on the BE88U.

And yeah, a BE88U (ex. RT-BE88U PRO) with 6GHz? That’d be a dream come true.

It’d be perfect, really... But of course, if you want everything, you’ll have to shell out for those massive and (IMHO) ridiculously overpriced ROG models.

I think that WiFi6 (802.11ax) is being confused with the WiFi carrier frequency bands.

The RT-BE88U (WiFi7 - 802.11be) is compatible with WiFi6 devices but it does *not* provide the extra 6GHz WiFi band introduced with WiFi6E.

WiFi6 devices do not support the 6GHz band. WiFi6E devices do. WiFi7 devices *may* support the 6GHz band depending on implementation *and* regional regulatory control - The 6GHz band is not universally available for WiFi use.

yeah this is it. I think i'll stick with my AX86U Pro.

I have a 900gb direct fiber line.

should I have the WAN port hooked up to the 1GB port?

I have a netgear gs305 hooked up to the first 1G LAN port, and my UNRAID server is in that - the 2nd lan port is hooked up to the TVs ethernet port - it's using the same ugreen cat8 cables as everywhere else so why does it say this?

and what should I do with the 2.5G port? if my connection from my ISP is max 900mbps, is there any point in it? should I hook my server directly into it, or put the WAN cable in that and such?

advice please.

I might also use my old RT-AC68U as a repeater on the other side of the house.
