I'm using a 32Gb USB pen drive as "home" of Amule, transmission, etc, and as "stage" area for downloads (when they are finished I move them into a USB drive).

I would like to try a SDcard, rather then the pen drive.

The question: will it be faster than the 32Gb pen drive? ;) Will Merlin firmware recognize it? (maybe an sda device)

Depends on the USB drive and the SD card. I have a USB drive that can go up to 100 MB/s (provided a USB3 port, of course) that would smoke any Class 10 SD. But some El Cheap USB drives are even slower than Class 10 cards.

SD cards are mounted by the firmware, but they don't show up on the webui's main page.

Do you mean a sdcard inserted directly to router (opening the case?) or in usb-sdhc adapter?
I had a sd 32gb class10 inserted directly to the router and the speed was horrible.

Class 10 is only good if you read/write large files (when you record a fullHD video on a continuous empty space for example), on a device which has a very fast controller. I would be really surprised if a router could max out a decent class 6 card (my slot in my n66u is faulty, so I can't test it).

I also did several tests where I found class 6 cards faster vs class 10 ones when dealing with large amount of files (on android), but I did not test enough yet to draw a definite conclusion.

Just my two cents.

Directly into the router.. Is it so horrible?

Yes, transfer speed was about 1mbs and pausing every 5-10 seconds for buffering. Buy a cheap one to test.

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I've already an "old" 16Gb class 6.. I used it into an android few years ago..
Maybe it's perfect for my test ;)
