New Around Here
I decided to purchase a DIR-625 Wireless Router. The price was good, the reviews were good, I think it will meet my needs,etc.My questions are these;
1. I am hearing that I SHOULD NOT use the cd to install, that I should just hook into the lap top and tweak it from there. Anyone have an opinion on this? I am a total newbie. I just want this to work. I am willing to learn to tweak it but I am not really knowledgeable as to this whole networking process..
2. This has a usb port. Can I hook up my non wireless printer to this? I was going to purchase a new wireless one but that will have to wait.
3. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
I must say that this site has been a tremendous help and it has been fun reading the reviews and the forums. Thanks for the info!

PS- Am I doing something wrong or does the search on the forum not work? I could get no hits when i put "DIR-625" Wireless Router in the search. Thanks again!

got it going

I got the router yesterday. I used the software that came with it. Didn't work.
I think because I have ATT DSL that may have created a set up problem. After an hour with tech support we got it to work, some what. They had me set it up manually. I have no idea what security I have or if I have any at all. Signal also drops off about every 5 mins or so. Not sure why. I will work on trying to figure all this out. I have concluded there is no such thing as an easy set up if you are new at this. No amount of reading can really prep you. You have to dig in and get some tech help. At least with this router.
As I have stated I will continue to try to figure out the solutions. If some one knows of a good site or perhaps a book that might be useful for a newbie, as in walking one through the process of set up and making sure you have the basics covered, it would be appreciated.
I appreciate this site for the information it has in helping one decide what equipment options there are.
