You should never try to run two scans at once - the wireless driver is put in a "scanning mode" during a scan. It cannot do two at the same time, and you risk the chance of leaving the wireless driver stuck in that mode, requiring a reboot. The wlc_scan_state flag is to protect the driver to avoid such a situation, but it might not be 100% bulletproof.

The goal of a network scan is not to get an exhaustive list of every single access point available. The goal is to view a list of access points that are strong enough to interfere, so you can adjust your wifi channel accordingly.

Yes, while doing the check there was only one wireless signal available besides my own (I checked with inSSIDer on laptop).

Tonight at home I will turn on two access points that are normally off and I will let you know the result.

I confirm that i am running RT-N66U in router mode.

I confirm that the number of available SSID makes the difference (at least it does in my case either with active either with active)

Just adding a new SSID made it possible to finish the scan in few seconds with succes.
So in my case the problem was that only one network was available.

Please let me know if you need more info or specific test.

Just adding a new SSID made it possible to finish the scan in few seconds with succes.
So in my case the problem was that only one network was available.

That will be tricky for me to test, short of removing the antennas of my router and finding something to shield it from my neighbors (tin foil? ) But I think we got the specific detail that was common to everyone reporting this issue so far.

Tell me, did you see both SSIDs, or did it show only one (meaning there would be an issue where it would skip one SSID)?

Hi Merlin, yes , forgot to say that besides completing the scan, it reported both SSID with complete details both in active and passive mode.
So with more than one SSID, the site survey works perfectly.

I was able to reproduce the issue by having apscan.asp only return one single SSID. The fix is fairly simple - it's related to the sort code that skips both sorting and displaying if there is only one entry. Thanks for everyone's tests!
