Slow Downloadspeed under Windows 8

Hi

Since yesterday I'm running Windows 8 on my machine. While my upload-speed according to speednet seems to be normal, my download-speed has decreased to 45 Mbps (I've a 100 Mbps-connection). Testing different firmwares on my router didn't make any difference. And testing a different WLAN-Stick didn't help either, so I'm pretty sure that the slow speed is router related. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

I know this sounds odd, but did you check to see if there's a later network driver version for your ethernet interface on your computer? That's one thing to check, even though this is a new OS.

Thanks for the tip, but there doesn't seem to be a later network driver. Another odd thing I forgot to mention: Only the 2,4 Ghz band is recognized by my adapter, the 5 Ghz isn't.

So your computer supports both 2.4 and 5GHz. wireless, and the 5GHz. wireless isn't working. If you have 5GHz. turned on from your router, this sounds like a client rather than router problem to me. You could try power-cycling/rebooting your router, but you've even changed firmware and the speed reduction doesn't change. The variable here sounds like it goes with the new OS to me, not the router.

When you changed the firmware on your router, did you clear the nvram for each different firmware? Since you didn't mention what firmware versions you tried, I don't know if you needed to do that or not.

Thanks again for your assistance, my problem was indeed client-related. Windows installed the wrong driver for my wlan-stick during installation. I had to change it manually to the Ralink-Driver that is needed for my stick, now it's working flawlessly, even in 5ghz-mode.

Appearently windows 8 has a built in QOS that takes up 20% of your bandwidth.
I personally don't like windows 8 , so I haven't tried his remedy, but I watched the video and thought of this post....
Figured I'd post it so that maybe it would help you.
