Hello everyone, so I've got voxels firmware on my r7800 and I keep seeing these posts about dnscrypt and stubby being included if I activate them via telnet??

What do they do, do I want to activate them?? If I do how do I know it's working? Does it add a menu or something? Do I need a USB stick left in the machine for it to work?

I only read up about it while looking for a router level ad blocker...

Thanks everyone.

Dnscrypt and Stubby a.o. encrypt your dns querries (translation from eg www address to ip address).
Use it if you are concerned about privacy!
You dont need any usb thing.

Test eg here:
https://ipleak.net/
https://dnsleaktest.com/
https://www.perfect-privacy.com/dns-leaktest/
https://cmdns.dev.dns-oarc.net/
https://www.dns-oarc.net/oarc/services/dnsentropy/

There is no menu.
But you can install the kamoj info add-on to get some info!

Right then I've installed this dnscrypt and that package you suggested for ad blocking... I've also added your extra info pack, thank you for not only taking the time to reply but also for the hard work doing all these things...

So with them installed I see this, does itmean it's working?

I've not installed the stubby package yet, as I read on a voxel post that if you enable stubby it cancels off dnscrypt... Is that right.

Yes!
All looks fine.
If you are a noob, you should be proud and happy!

I suggest you stay with Dnscrypt rather than Stubby.

Thank you for reporting back, and don't forget to "like" posts that you like.
(That's what keeps eg me and Voxel motivated)

IF you still care about tour privacy, I strongly suggest you continue to use dnscrypt2.
Why would you trust your ISP?
The whole idea with stubby/dnscrypt is to encrypt tour DNS so that eg your ISP can not see
your DNS lookups. Stubby/dnscrypt2/dnscrypt are interchangable. Why change to Stubby?
Som people prefer Stubby, but I have experienced big problems with it when using several resolvers.
Also dnscrypt2 makes it easy to add ad-blocking and other black-listings.
But you can try both and see for yourself.

Next step for your privacy could be to encrypt your data traffic, using OpenVPN.
You can read about it on the net,eg at

Hi, so sorry but i am also a noob who is trying to do the same here. I was able to install .065SF on my new R7800. I spent a whole day just to make VPN working with NordVPN. Then the DNSCrypt came up. I tried to install dnscrypt proxy 2 on Voxel firmware website but got the error saying it can't be downgraded. I believe i have newer version on my router; which i found out it is included in the latest Voxel firmware. I changed my DNS on my rounter to OpenDNS instead of my ISP (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220). When i run the dnsleak test. It showed 6 of the Open DNS servers. What did it mean? I think i have a dns leak because even though i was under a VPN activated router but the website was still be able to see my DNS. Could you please help or guide me through this?

How do i activate or enable it DNSCrypt if it is included in Voxel Firmware?
I saw .toml file and was able to edit the file to add more servers.
How do i know DNSCrypt is working or not?

Thank you very very much.

DNSCrypt Proxy v.2 (2.0.19) is included into firmware:
to enable DNSCrypt Proxy v.2 run the commands from telnet/ssh console:
nvram set dnscrypt2=1
nvram commit
and reboot your router;
to disable DNSCrypt Proxy v.2 run the commands from telnet/ssh console:
nvram set dnscrypt2=0
nvram commit
and reboot your router

Thanks so much. Now i ran the DNSleak test again. It showed 3 different DNS servers resolver2.dnscrypt.eu - Cloudflare - US, none - Google - US, none - Netgroup A/S - Denmark.
Does it mean my DNScrypt works?
