Your problem seems to be misconfiguration, not intermittent packet loss caused by buggy drivers.

Any thoughts what needs to be changed. I'm loosing my hair.

Every tutorial is different. My case is different then every tutorial as well as physical setup and setup is different. If setup is different my settings will be different and i try and it fails. I've found youtube tutorial on esxi but guy had entire network already setup with virual switch and he linked up his virtual adapters with pfsense setup.
How is that helping me. I have none of his setup and i lack some knowledge how his virutal lab is setup. I can only fix what my network setup is, that if if i understand what i am fixing and i am not understanding what the issue is. So I'm asking if someone know if they can point out where my issue is pertaining to my setup.

Well, what I did was read networking books. Switching to pfSense was an eye-opening experience that showed me I was a networking noob. There was a bunch of fundamental stuff I needed to learn.

Here is my setup. Maybe i need to sperate my win7 desktop from pfsense vm somehow. Is that why wan is dropping cause desktop is trying to access internet and so is pfsense which is trying to get wan ip address? Vlan , virtual switch. I don't know what's wrong with setup.

There are also two virtual nics from vmware vm1 and vm8. I was bridging them with physical nics but that dont' work.

Why is this pfsense so complicated. I mean router is like breath of fresh air. I'm starting to choke on air polution this pfsense is producing.
If i had physical box would my outcome be any different?

So much for setting up ESXi with pfsense. No secondary nic detected or available. Still me thinks fen realtek is garbage junk sh1t
ESXi don't see it and pfsense probably doesn't either and neither is vm workstation either. I can setup till i'm blue in the face!

Blade any thought on this article point desktop nics especially realtek and marvel are useless. It's possible they are dropping packets in unix enviroment but are ok in windows. I don't know until i can test new nic card.

Realtek NIC is causing your configuration issues.
http://www.vdicloud.nl/2015/02/07/realtek-nic-on-vsphere-6/

Evidently, Realtek driver support was dropped after ESXI 5.0v. Follow the above link or wait for the Intel NIC. Your decision.

Perhaps creating 'Driver Support' column on worksheet and checking it twice before doing anything would be beneficial.

Good luck.

Thanks blade but i injected net 5.1 into esxi already. I actually tried all drivers. I think it's supporting one nic but other realtek nic is older 100.
I think i'll wait for the intel server nics to come and try then. It seems no platform likes realtek chip. I shoudl have done that from get go. Frustration is not worth $20. Pentium 3 will also tell me that since it's physical box but i'll start with my desktop first.
Thanks for all the help guys tho. I'm hoping it's nic!

Thanks for those links blade. They will help me out.

get yourself a 2nd hand intel NIC. If you are in the US they tend to be cheap on ebay to get multi port intel NICs (or NICs with intel controllers in them).

Thanks it's already on it's way Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual server nic. I even checked if controller chip number is on FreeBSD approved hardware and it is so I hope it's nic not comcast. I was looking at quad nic but i probably won't need it and quad had 2 controllers in it and i don't know how pfsense would handle that so safe route was dual. Plus dual is brand new and quads were used.

Hey guys just fyi. I installed ubuntu mate 15 on my D620 laptop and i got 72Mbps on vpn threw my 87u router. Weird as this doesn't make any sense. Maybe linux kernel handles transmission better with linux code based 87u router. Nevertheless i'm not going to be installing ubuntu on my desktop but just fyi. This was pleasant. My laptop is working much better on linux then on any windows. This is what i will be running on it.

As much as I like Linux/open-source/blah, Windows usually wins from a performance perspective (wireless, graphics, drivers in general). Flip-flopping between operating systems is inconclusive because you have changed hundreds of parameters...

Jumping to conclusions is dangerous. Trial & error is vital to problem solving, but explaining why a certain deciscion is better than another is where we truly learn. :)

General consensus is linux is way faster on older pcs. My xp was running great on it and my win 7 is sluggish (with basic theme) even when i do chrome browsing.
All drivers installed at OS and OS install was blazing fast. Boot is fast too. Wifi as you see hit 72Mbps which is still odd to me. I'll play with it see how i like it but i understand what you're saying. After all it's fresh install.

For the sake of this topic which has gone in another direction the conclusion is this:
There is no router out there that can really do more then 50-60 mbps with a VPN client.
CPU are limited and not fast enough to handle such heavy encryptions.
Maybe in the future the routers will get better cpu but for the moment this is it.
As you can see with Rango pfsence and Linux is not easy and one needs a lot of patients and experience to properly configure computers as routers.
ASUS routers are really good routers and if people think that getting another router will fix their speed problems they are just spending money for nothing.
One guy posted he had a ac5300 and claimed he got speeds of 60 mbps and higher which proves that a faster cpu can handle more load.
If you take for instance a single core cpu like the AC66U you will never get more then 10 mbps because the cpu cant handle it.
So in conclusion faster cpu, dual core cpu will make the difference.
How much one is willing to spend for faster speeds is up to the user :)

Yorgi here is 2.3Ghz router for $50 lol.....i would get it but i was not convinced to amd cpu variation. I love amd, my main rig is amd a10 but this processor is like celeron i think so i would rather pay 80 more and get i3. Not sure if pfsense would like this cpu. my amd and i3 and dual core are fine. BTW ac66u is dual core rt-66u is single core and even on single core i did 38mbps, ac66u may be 1000mhz so if overclock probably can do 68 and 87 speeds. I had mine at 1000Mhz but mine was singe core 600mhz.

AC-66U is single core I have one right here.
68U is dual core

I can't wait to see how things finally pan out for you :)

Oh yeah you're right. Sorry i got confused. I'm still waiting for the card but honestly I have a feeling comcast is blocking pfsense platform so we'll see. If i won't get comcat ip on this nic that means comcast is the culprit and that's what my gut is telling me, however i could be wrong. I guess we'll know soon. One thing i can say about routers is they are very convenient. You set it up and forget about it. I'm not so sure that is the case with pfsense. We'll see. If pfsense will be hustle i will go back in split second to my 87u.

There are some threads in pfsense forum on high cpu utilization with vmware so if that's the case i may go back to router unless there is fix. I guess i'll play and see.

You should sell your 66u for $50 on ebay and get yourself 87r from new egg at 144 price. Open American express card and they will give you $50 credit toward this purchase. Your net price for 87u will be >$50

I already have a 87U this 66u is going for sale but not for 50 bucks lol its worth more then that :p

the mikrotik CCR series and RB1100AHx2 can do VPN faster especially if you use AES as they have hardware AES acceleration.
I could test the speeds later though as i havent figured out how to get other than PPTP working. It does PPTP at 300Mb/s per core (each client is limited to a core) from last i tested last year so firmware changes could change it. They are much easier to configure than linux for routing but they lack features like anti virus or something like snort.
