system log shows old data

Hi everyone.

When I reboot the router (AC88U running merlin 386.3_2), I always get the same error log from January. Lots of errors like:

Jan 10 18:38:50 dnsmasq[2036]: failed to send packet: Operation not permitted
Jan 10 18:38:50 dnsmasq[2036]: failed to send packet: Operation not permitted
Jan 10 18:38:50 dnsmasq[2036]: failed to send packet: Operation not permitted

If I clear the logs and then restart the unit, it still show it like that.

How can I clear the logs, I think I never actually see new log items because of this.

Clear the logs how? With Merlin, it always keeps a copy in /jffs to reinitialize the syslog on a reboot.

I cleared that log ( https://www.snbforums.com/threads/system-log-does-not-stay-cleared-after-a-reboot.46581/) and still get it.

this time, I logged in directly to the log and saw it update in real time to May 5 and log a few items. It seems that the default clock is always Jan 11...

Now the question is why am I getting all these errors when the router starts:

The "Jan 11" issue sounds like this problem where the OP forgot that he had previously installed fake-hwclock.

The "Mastiff: init" message appears early in to boot process before the WAN interface has come up so it's not surprising the date is set incorrectly at that point.

I found the ntp pool servers are not very reliable these days, quite a few never seem to be up.

My ntp works, or seconds later it wouldn't show the right time/date and it always does.

Never used that fake click trick...
