Traffic History

After a few abortive attempts, I've managed to find a USB flash drive that will actually work with my RT-AX88U so that I can use it to save traffic history rather than to the default RAM. Question: What is the easiest way to confirm that the traffic history is actually being saved to the new location?

After a couple of hours of collecting data look at what your daily traffic is then turn the router off for a minute then power the router up and again check daily traffic.

You could also check via SSH. The stats are saved in gzip files and you can see them if you list the USB directory.

I've had a quick look via SSH and I see the following, which I assume means that everything is working, but I'll also try the suggestion by CaptainSTX later today (thanks Captain).

I'm not sure that the SSH results will give you a positive answer other than the file has been created. I have seventeen months of data in my file and the file is just 3KB in size.

I've just rebooted my router and here's a quick snapshot of earlier data in the web history tab. Does that indicate that everything is working correctly?

I haven't actually opened the gzip files to see what's in them but if it's just delimited text or something like that, several months of data would still be pretty small.

Web History is part of the Traffic Analyzer, it has nothing to do with the Traffic Monitor data collection that you have set up.

OK Colin, thanks for clarifying what it is not. So is it this one...

That's the 2nd tab called "Statistic". According to Merlin, that traffic data is part of the TrendMicro suite of applets and is NOT stored on USB. Only the traffic data on the first tab "Traffic Monitor" is stored on the USB.

If you're wanting to verify it is working, just go to that tab, look at the data and then reboot your router. If it is working, your data will survive a reboot.

It isn't a file format that you can do anything with. It comes up every so often and there isn't or least anything easy you can do with the data or even read it.

I've just rebooted the router and all the data has disappeared, so it seems that it's not working after all.

I've just run a check on the USB drive and it seems to be OK.

When you first setup the location of the data file did you enable and apply the "Create or reset data files" option?

I think so. I've just repeated the procedure to make sure.

I'll check again a bit later on this evening when at least an hour of data should have been saved.

It seems that it's not working.

I don't know exactly how the hourly stats roll up. Mine look like they cleared at last reboot but my historical stats are still there. Try looking at the "daily" stats instead.

You're looking at the realtime graph not the historic values.
I wasn't. I was looking at the last 24 hours. These are the realtime stats...

I'll let in run for a couple of hours or so and then try a reboot and have a look at both the 24-hour stats and the daily stats and report back.
