New Around Here
Hi there,

With the help of all the threads about Traffic logging, i configured my Router to write any hour the traffic log to a USB-Drive. But i was wondering how to use the 2 files on this drive. I copied the files to my PC and tried to open it in Notepad++ (after uncompress :) ) but it's not really readable.

Is there a possibilty to log the whole traffic to a external location. Would be great to use Splunk for Report.

Thanks for any help.
Nick

The data is in a custom format. You will have to write your own tools to process its content.

If you need integration with external tools, look at SNMP.

Maybe I should explain my results.
The files are being saved to the thumb drive, tomato_cstats_000000000000.gz and rstats. Both uncompressed have the same file name with no extension.

IF I open in Notepad++ the cstats file is empty and the rstats file has 1 line, RS01 and Nul across the line, length 2112. Notepad++ calls it a normal text file so I renamed and opened but nothing.

Am I doing something wrong?

I have it setup for a single IP address that is static for a specific device. I made sure there was bandwidth usage to try and populate the log files but I see nothing.

And maybe I misunderstood a piece in the readme about the traffic monitoring. The way I read the information was that it would log information similar to the "System Log - Active Connections" page in the web interface. All I want to see is the Destination IP addresses of the device connections, preferably in a txt file. Did I misunderstand that?

And BTW I love the firmware so far, nice job!

If I recall correctly this the tomato stats file is not for reading. You would need a program/script to parse the information. You can view the info it is saving in the QOS/Traffic monitor section. As for the connections I think thta only shows current connections. Please correct me if I am wrong but you might need a separate (via Ent/Optware) package to do what you are describing.

Did you look on the router itself? Traffic Analyzer - Traffic Monitor - Drop down (daily/monthly/etc) and even per ip if thats enabled.

Yes you have misunderstood. Traffic Monitoring does not collect the information you are looking for.
