I am currently running Merlin 380.59 firmware and am trying to get ddns to update my dnsomatic account. (I can actually get it to update using cUrl). I use "all.dnsomatic.com" for the hostname and I get this error in the logs :

Aug 10 11:09:18 ddns update: connected to updates.dnsomatic.com (67.215.92.215) on port 80.
Aug 10 11:09:18 ddns update: invalid hostname: all.dnsomatic.com

Anyone have any ideas whats going on here?

On the Merlin input screen, it's the data input field labelled "Server" where "www.dnsomatic.com" should be entered (without the quotes).

The Host Name field should be filled in with whatever you have registered with your DDNS service, for example
yourname.ddnscompany.com

On the Merlin input screen, the User Name and Password fields should be the user name and password of your dnsomatic.com account.

Then you need to log on to your dnsomatic.com account, and specify that the incoming notification from your router should be forwarded to ddnscompany.com, using the user name and password for your ddnscompany.com account

Of course, you also need to set up an account at ddnscompany.com, and have registered with them youname.ddnscompany.com

(ddnscompany.com above is just a place holder for whatever ddns provider you decide to use. Some are free, some make a charge, some are good, some less good.)

Hello Polarbear.
We may have different fw versions...
There is already a selection as "WWW.DNSOMATIC.COM".
As for the other settings, I had an older, N66U set up with dnsomatic for a few years.
I also have these warnings on the DDNS page:
"The wireless router currently uses a private WAN IP address.
This router may be in the multiple-NAT environment and DDNS service cannot work in this environment.".
I am using a usb modem in fallback mode and seem to remember some special setting up this requires to not get this problem. Any ideas anyone?

On my router I wrote a custom DDNS script because the firmware DDNS registration was not reliable.

When my Internet is down, the cable modem gives the router a WAN IP address of 192.168.100.11. This is a bogus private LAN address. Your custom DDNS script should check for this, log an error and exit the custom DDNS script.

Also, when the router starts up, your DNS may not be available and it is unable to resolve the DDNS website name. Your custom DDNS script should keep checking every 30 seconds until it resolves this name. Then register your DDNS name. Otherwise, your DDNS registration may fail periodically.

Hello All,

Need help in changing my existing DDNS name with new public IP on asuscomm.com. I tried changing on my RT-AC87 router but it still registers to my old public IP. Is their a way to update my existing DDNS name to new public IP on asuscomm.com
