New Around Here
Hi all, running 270.26 on my RT-N16 with no issues for a couple of weeks, and all of a sudden this AM I have no internet, I attempt to log into the router, and it fails, I go into the closet to look at the router and it has a solid power light. I reset the power quickly and the ethernet and power lights turn on for about 10 seconds followed by the wireless light for a brief time before I get only the power light steady on again. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, come back, and the router boots correctly (I can log in, internet works and all), but after a short time, it becomes unresponsive and only has a solid power light. I know this router isn't officially supported, but I'm coming from Tomato, and so far I really like this firmware, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

Do you have Download Master installed? If yes, then it might be having trouble with either the disk it's writing to, or overloading the CPU's router/RAM.

If not, then there's a good chance this is a hardware issue. You can try resetting to factory defaults and reconfiguring your router in case it's a corrupted setting.

I don't have Download Master installed unless it was installed by default. I'm starting to think it is a hardware issue, because it will stay unfrozen as long as nothing is plugged into the WAN/LAN ports. I reset the settings via holding the WPS button while powering up, and I can access it via wifi. Should I try flashing another firmware and see if issue persists? Or should I try something else to ensure it is hardware?

You could try reverting back to factory default settings and Asus's 3.0.0.4.270 to see what happens.

If the issue still occurs but only when you have connected devices over Ethernet, try with one device at a time to see if it's a particular device causing it. One of them could have a faulty Ethernet interface, faulty cable, or have network parameters conflicting with your router (for instance, it could be running its own DHCP server, or have a static IP that conflicts with the router).

Looks like it was the power supply causing the issues. I snagged the power supply from my E3000 and it has been running for 5 hours without lockup. I had already ordered an N66 on discount the other day too, oh well.
