Unknown IP...

Router: AX-86U
Firmware Version: AsusWRT-Merlin 386.2_4
Issue: Unknown IP address

The Roku stick is connected to the 5 GHz guess WiFi network and works just fine. The issue comes up, when trying to replace the default with a custom icon for the Roku stick in this window:

roku ip.jpg

After clicking on "Change", scrolling down to "Upload" and selecting the custom icon, the image is uploaded. Once the "Apply" clicked, the router pops up this message:

unknown ip.jpg

Well, the router is wrong for number of reasons. The router can assign the DHCP IP for the device, it can list the invalid IP address in the client details, but cannot recognize the IP address; what gives?

Is this a bug, or this is how it supposed to work?

TIA...

Must be a bug - replicated here on my setup with default ip ranges on primary and on zone 1 guest WiFi [in my case 12.168.101.0/24 for #1 Zone Guests].

There is a workaround which worked for me - temporarily change zone 1 guest WiFi to allow intrAnet access [NB - this will change ip range to the same as your primary network] - change the icons you want - then revert zone 1 guest WiFi to disable intranet access. As long as the MAC addresses remain constant - your custom icon choices should stick.

As an alternate - setup zone 2 guest WiFi and allow intranet access on it - then just link those devices to it temporarily as you assign your chosen device icons - then revert each device to zone 1 Guest WiFi. That will be less of a hassle if you have many devices on zone 1 with only a few icons you wish to change.

Good luck.

Thanks @kernol

The alternate worked just fine:

PS: Your guess WiFi subnet puzzled me for a second. Until I realized, that it is just a typo and you meant 192.168.101.0/24...

It's a bug caused by Asus's new Guest Network implementation, where parts of the firmware do not recognize the separate IP subnet as being valid.
