VPN Keep-alive

Hey all,

So I am on Asus Merlin and I am using Open VPN for my VPN needs. Now I have noticed after a while (Sporadically) that the internet dies on my AC88U router. Disabling VPN or rebooting the router remedies the issue but this is not really all that ideal.

I know that I can enter custom configurations on the VPN set up page, I was wondering if there was something I could enter in the custom configuration that allowed me to ping an IP or host at certain intervals to keep the VPN Alive ? This may not fix my issue but I am removing possible factors.

Thanks guys.

Hmm unfortunately it seems that did not do the trick. I sense that it may not be a VPN issue.

I have the following setup.

ISP Modem - (LAN 192.168.1.1) - AC88U (WAN 192.168.2.1). (LAN-WAN Config)

DHCP is enabled on both but as it is a different subnet then that should not be an issue. I have also cloned the MAC of the ISP router witihn the WAN setup on my AC88U to see if that helped alleviate the issue. However intermittently my AC88U seems to drop its internet connection. Local network is still accesible just fine but internet not so much.

The ISP Modem is from SKY for reference. I have tried a fair few settings and changes but nothing seems to help, I must be missing something.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.
