I would greatly appreciate any feedback as to what others find to be most stable firmware for ASUS RT-AC66U.

Thanks in advance and great info here by the way.

Too much at time and don't have time or ability to test all as people in the household don't want any downtime.

Thanks.

Merlin 376.49_alpha2 if you care about IPv6. If not 376.48 Merlin build. Also dont forget about John's fork build it works very well. 374.43_2-v6

Out of the two, Merlin's latest firmware because my isp does not support ipv6 yet, so between Merlin's latest firmware and John's fork, which one should I choose for stability and good wireless coverage along with using it for vpn client purposes.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

USE THE LATEST MERLIN WRT FOR THE SAID ROUTER

That's pretty shouty :) I'm still pretty new, and like to read up before I jump and start flashing my family router. Like tharunam, I'm also a bit confused as to what is considered the 'best' firmware. In my case, I'm looking for two main features:

- the ability to mount a large USB drive ( formatted with NTFS) and share it via NFS
- rock solid wireless performance.

The forums are often full of bug reports (valid or not) that lead to questions of stability for various features. I truly appreciate that this is a volunteer effort (and am very grateful!) but due to the volume of conflicting information it is pretty confusing for newbie such as myself.

I too would vote for the latest RMerlin firmware to have the best chance of wireless stability.

The option to mount a USB drive should not be given priority when choosing a router on any current firmware. If you need to share files, a NAS is the best way.

Just add a HDD and then use your USB drive to backup the important documents on the NAS. ;)

I would recommend John's 374_fork for max wifi stability and I'd say stability overall; As to the mounting the large usb drive I don't know for sure which would be better my working assumption is there should be little difference, though perhaps the Latest Merlin's (alpha or not) *might have updated coverage\support for more usb device types.
