Went to move a 1.4gb file from a wired client to a wireless client today (laptop). Router set to 20mhz and the laptop is N speed but single channel (72mbps) and the speeds were around 3.58mb a sec on the file copy. Is this normal or is there a perforamnce bottleneck?

The laptop is no more than 5 feet with no obstructions from the router, the desktop computer is using gigabit (cat 6 wired). Did a file copy between two wired computers and it was under 25 seconds.

This is normal. Once you add the overhead generated by the encryption, 30-40 Mbits as as good as it can get.

Just be pedantic:
Single Channel/20 Mhz (as well as dual channel/40Mhz) has 3 different link speeds, depending on sterams (antenna).
Single stream, 72Mbps, dual stream 150Mbps? or so, 3 stream, 216 Mbps.
Do you know what receiver your cleint got, 1-3 streams?
Also you stated transfer speeds as 3.58 mb/s (bit) or is that mB/s (byte).

Having said all that is normal.
