I'm having wifi problem with the skd6 builds: the wifi speed after a while degrades to speed of a few KB/s and I have to restart the wireless to end the problem.

It's particularly annoying while streaming a video from PC (connected to the 5GHz wifi with a USB-N53 wifi adapter) to a WDLive(connected to the router via lan cable), but I also have the same problem copying file to a laptop o android phone.
The router is currently on the 39_0-em, but the same problem also with older sdk6 builds. With the sdk5 I never had this problem.
Have tried to do a factory reset of the router from the webui, with the wps button method, and also tried to restore the firmware with the recovery tool, but I keep getting this problem..

Anyone has a similar problem? Is there something I can try to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated

Btw thanks to Merlin for his great builds

Hi,

Did you do a factory reset?
This is essential to use this new build.

Go to the Factory reset in the Web-Interface (or push the WPS button while powering-up for over 15 seconds: see User Guide).

Do NOT restore a backup but restore all settings manually.

Success!

Added:
WPS button: pressing the Red WPS button while power-up, will clear the NVRAM. All settings are stored in NVRAM of this ASUS router. Clearing the NVRAM is the most efficient way to reset the router to default settings.

That is: press and hold the WPS button, keep pressing the reset button while plugging in the power, then keep holding the WPS button pressed for about ten seconds, then release the WPS button. All settings have now been wiped, and default settings will be used.

Yes I have tried Factory reset both from the webui and with the WPS button method, but still got this problem.

Thanks for the suggestion

Did you delete and then re-setup the wi-fi connections on the devices?

Will try this.
Wired that in W8.1 you have to use the command prompt to delete wifi profiles....
Thanks

@Casel -- on the off chance it helps -- I had problems with poor 2.4ghz wireless when I upgraded to 374.39_0-em on my RT-N66U. Where previously I was very consistently getting 32-35 Mbps (top speed from Comcast) on 2.4ghz, after flashing 39_0-em I would see speeds around 22 Mbps shortly after restarting the router and connected devices, and then speeds gradually deteriorated to about 12-15Mbps over the course of 24 hours or so. This mostly affected my iPhone 4S (on IOS7) and iPod Touch(on IOS6). My 5ghz wireless speeds were always outstanding - never had a problem.

Prior to this, I had run 374.35_4-sdk5 and later 374.38_2-em (I did reset to defaults when I flashed this one)... with excellent 2.4ghz speed and range on both.

Things I tried after upgrading to 374.39_0-em that did not help:
  • reset to defaults and reconfigured router
  • "forgot" and recreated wireless profile on the iPhone/Ipod
  • changed 2.4ghz settings to 20mhz, then back to 20/40; also set fixed channel 6, then ch 1
  • went back to 35_4-sdk5, and reset to defaults
  • loaded ASUS 374_2239, reset to defaults
None of these things had any measurable effect on my 2.4ghz wireless performance. Finally, I simply Reset Network Settings on the iPhone and iPod... and everything's fine, 2.4ghz speeds are back up to where they used to be.

I know this isn't a new troubleshooting idea - others have suggested it plenty of times before - but I was under the impression it shouldn't be required.

Also, the fact that going back to 35_4-sdk5 and resetting to defaults didn't get me back up and running suggests that there may be some settings stored by the router that aren't reset when resetting back to defaults. I think another user posted something to this effect a while back. I'm not sure what to do with that information, but maybe somebody else will have an idea.
