Hello,
I am looking for a not-that-expansive wifi router to my home with ... children (yes, this is important fact about my question ;-) ) which:
- is using open source firmware with good community support
- lets me create several wifi networks so that I could create one wifi network for our children, one for our guest and one, privileged ;-) for me and my wife.
- let me setup bandwidth limits in each network
- let me setup availability for each network so that children won't be able to connect after say 10pm
- let me filter out some web sites in the children channel

Is there any router which would let me do all of the above ?

If there is no such router then maybe there is a router with most of those requirements ?

Build an x86 box and use SophosXG or some other distribution to give you the fancy features you desire. You can do WiFi out of that box if you like, or use a dedicated solution for WiFi. I am running a SophosXG with basic filtering enabled and UniFi for my WiFi with multiple SSIDs to cover normal network, IoT network, and Guest.

Thanks but I would like to use existing routers. I think it is more about capabilities of firmware: what can be done and what cannot.

The RT-AC86U or newer running RMerlin firmware, a spare USB drive running amtm and available scripts (see my signature for some of the possibilities) and a will to spend some time and learn how to get this going seems like the best of all options for you that I know of. :)

I don't mind learning new stuff - this is refreshing ;-)
The only concern I have is what path to follow i.e.: dd-wrt family or merlin firmware ? Which one would allow me to create dedicated network with different wifi password for our children and guests.

By the way what is "amtm" ?

Ah! A new student. :)

I'm not sure about DD-WRT, haven't used that in forever (and even then, it was not a pleasant experience at all).

But I can tell you that the Asus+RMerlin powered networks, along with amtm (it is really 'just' a menu for supported scripts, but, much more than that to0) and the scripts which seem applicable to you like YazFi are very hard, if not impossible to beat. :)

If you try RMerlin firmware you'll be spoiled. :)

There is nothing which works with so few issues, runs on great hardware and is easily the most secure, performance and feature rich (via scripts), in that order.

If you can't do what your network needs with RMerlin firmware, you may not be trying hard enough. :)

Hmm, seems very promising :)
I think I have last (for now ;) ) question - with RMerlin firmware can I create multiple networks (SSIDs) with different passwords and rules for each?

Yes. That is even available with stock Asus firmware (main, +3 Guests for each Radio/Band). :)
