    New Horizons Beckoned

I'm writing this as a 'Going away, may not be back' thing. I've been with ASUS and Merlin for... ever it seems. Watched the builds grow into a very nice package. Learned a lot, had some odd problems, got great assistance along the way. For the past week, I've been running OpenWrt on a NanoPi...

    Asus Aimesh/AP network advice

If you find that all this is too much tweaking and reliability is questionable, take a look at these solutions. I've shot a signal half a mile using this gear. Glad I don't have those conditions any longer though. https://mikrotik.com/products/group/wireless-systems

    [ 386.4 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

I'm using Google DDNS and I have normal updates with no indication of error in the GUI or anywhere else.

    [ 386.4 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

**** Updated 3 Nov 21 **** TLDR; Not the router or alpha 2. I reloaded alpha 2, and removed power to the device overnight. Upon applying power, it connected and is functioning fine. Guess it just needed a good night's sleep. **** End Update **** I had to roll back to Alpha 1. A single device...

AiMesh with backhaul via Ethernet over Powerline

I've successfully used this and MoCA for the backhaul. Just test the adapters before committing to it. For my application, this is the only way to get an ethernet backhaul.

    DIY routers and APs

So what are you thinking of hardware-wise? I was going to go that route before I bought the AX86, but then, time got in the way. With winter approaching, I may revisit the idea.

    Pihole DNS

I disagree with your conditional forwarding setting as the router will not provide reverse lookup without that. Setting something up as close to your desired outcome is much easier than setting up incorrectly for your need then poking this and that to get where you want to be.

    Pihole DNS

I'd only disagree with the conditional forwarding. Mine looks like this and it does in fact use the router for reverse lookups.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.3 beta is now available

I saw some other posts within the beta thread about needing to rejoin the Wi-Fi network. I just saw this this morning. My Tesla had the 'Join a Wi-Fi Network' screen when I got in and I needed to join the network it has been on for a year. Chose the SSID and entered the password, away we go...

    Beta VPN Director testing

It would be nice to have IPv6 supported. It is one thing causing me to not run a VPN via the router.

2.5G Port for backhaul with Aimesh Node?

Whatever you decide, I've found it best to buy cable by the bandwidth it is rated to pass. Looking at Amazon, 'CAT 6' cables have widely differing specs. I buy 500 MHz

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2_6 is now available

Then I'd say that your hardware picked a coincidental time to fail. I have a number of low, mid- normal powered IoT devices, some at -68 dBm or lower signal. None have had a bit of problem.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2_6 is now available

Sometime, Apple devices need to forget the network, restart, add the network again. Just a thought.

Thinking about switching to MoCA 2.5

You need to see if the existing splitters are MoCA compatible as the bandwidth and bands passed are important for MoCA. Next, you will likely get better and more stable bandwidth to the rooms, but they will all share the same 'backbone' which under 'normal' conditions is 2.5 Gb. Finally, you...

I have upgraded and added a Sony Bravia XR55A80J for display of the QR code. Both working well.

Incoming ipv6 echo requests to LAN blocked?

For me, on the latest Win 10 Pro, I selected the following rule and set active and 'Private' Core Networking Diagnostics - ICMP Echo Request (ICMPv6-In) There are two identical in description, but only the first one needed activated and made to work on Private networks on my machine.
