ASUS RT-N66U 2.4 GHz capped at 3Mbps randomly

Yeah, I have the N66 as well. Its a little on the older side, but some of the bugs/vulnerabilities don't affect me because I don't use the features that are affected. Flash it like any other firmware and do a reset because the wireless driver is different. Hopefully this solvers your problems...

ASUS RT-N66U 2.4 GHz capped at 3Mbps randomly

The only other thing I can suggest then is to try an older firmware. The one that works really well for me, and the one that I'm probably gonna stick with for a long time, is 35-4 SDK5. Everything else, I have problems with, and my main problem is the 5 GHz channel dropping out after a few...

    QoS limiting

Yeah, you can turn on QoS, and limit her bandwidth based on her MAC address. Give as much as you want or as little. You can also limit what hours and days she can access the Internet with Parental Controls.

ASUS RT-N66U 2.4 GHz capped at 3Mbps randomly

Hrm I would suggest the following changes to the 2.4 GHz wireless settings under the Professional tab: Preamble Type -> Auto RTS Threshold -> 2346 Optimize AMPDU aggregation -> enable Optimize ack suppression -> enable And quite possibly back to default TX power adjustment -> 80 More power...

RT-AC66U Limit or Cap Device Bandwidth Usage

If I were you, I would just talk to her. Besides she is supposed to be watching your children, not her Nook.

    Why NOT to resolve IPs

Equally, you can set it up so that it looks like the NSA, CIA, and FBI are all snooping your network.

ASUS RT-N66U 2.4 GHz capped at 3Mbps randomly

How's your wireless neighborhood look like? If there are tons of 2.4 GHz wireless networks surrounding you, then you will have to do more tweaking.

    WiFi Issues

Sounds like a problem with the Galaxy Note. If there was a problem with the router all connected devices would experience some trouble. Has anything on the Note changed recently?

    Question about cable modem channels

Yeah definitely ditch the cable company's modem /router combo. Comcast does the same thing when you rent their equipment. They setup a wireless Hotspot, but require users to use their combat login to gain access. As for the better modem, the 8x4 is a little more future proof because it will...

    Update or play it cool?

Look at the changelog when new releases come out. If there's something there that you need or want, then upgrade. Otherwise be happy with what you currently have.

    Problems Upgrading Firmware N66U

And which browser and version are you using? I've always had success using all versions of Chrome to flash.

Does RT-N66U have a real time clock? (trying to read system log)

It has no RTC. All it does is sync with an NTP server periodically to maintain the correct time, so when you select an NTP server, make sure its one that is close to you.

    DNS not working

Check: LAN -> DHCP Server -> DNS Server If it isn't 192.168.1.1, then change it to that.

Advice on QoS for RTN66U (Netflix and Plex Traffic)

Your other problem is that Comcast and most likely other ISPs are throttling Netflix traffic because Netflix generates so much goddamn traffic when it streams in HD. If you are finding that this is your case, then no amount of QoS is going to help you improve your Netflix HD streaming because...

    Home Network guidance

IMHO, the only future proofing you should look into is IPv6 and with the RT-N66 + Merlin, you have that. On the wireless end, the RT-N66 should provide more than enough wireless bandwidth for your needs for a long time.

    QOS settings

Actually the only way to control the downstream is through the upstream.

    MTU Settings

Yeah, unless your ISP's servers don't do packet fragmentation correctly for IPv4, there is no need to change the MTU.

    MTU Settings

I think firmware version 35 and higher allows you to change the MTU size. If you instead want to use an older firmware, you can use a script to set it or run it in the router setup page under run command.

unblock-us , dnsmasq and netflix performance

More than likely Comcast is throttling traffic coming from Netflix. Basically it comes down to money. Netflix generates so much traffic that goes through Comcast's infrastructure basically for free. There is talk of having streaming services like Netflix pay for higher priority or no throttling...

    Bandwidth limits.

Better than having your speed throttled or worse yet being kicked off the net.
