E3000 + GS108Tv2: Jumbo frames with mixed devices

I'm upgrading my network and have a Cisco E3000 router and Netgear GS108Tv2 switch on the way. I plan to flash the E3000 with Tomato firmware. My understanding is the gigabit switch in the E3000 doesn't support jumbo frames, but the GS108Tv2 does. The devices I'll be connecting are - [JF] means...

WAN to LAN throughput or Max Sim Connections??

I think it's a good choice, whether you use 3rd Party firmware or not. But I would say that on almost all routers with USB storage ports, don't be expecting any great speeds when reading from the connected hard drive....

    Asus RT-N56U Reviewed

    Some specs (from what I can gather) on Asus RT-N56U (Ralink, dual-band, 128mb/8mb) and RT-N76U (Broadcom, dual-band, 128mb/32mb): http://infodepot.wikia.com/wiki/Asus_RT-N56U http://infodepot.wikia.com/wiki/Asus_RT-N76U http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ik8J7ZTvg1uktpab...

WAN to LAN throughput or Max Sim Connections??

I defer to your better understanding. Actually I think my earlier comments may have been incorrect. Tomato does indeed allow you to set inbound QoS limits, as shown here. I guess I'm still confused by the whole thing :-) Apologies to the OP for getting a bit off-topic...

WAN to LAN throughput or Max Sim Connections??

Yeah I know, and I have no reason to doubt your testing. Although Tomato has come a long way since 1.19. My point to the OP was more that raw throughput and simultaneous connections with a 20/2 connection are unlikely to be the primary factor in how the user perceives the speed, particularly if...

WAN to LAN throughput or Max Sim Connections??

Depends how you define performance I guess. I'll happily admit I'm a big fan of Tomato. > I do a lot of online gaming and download primarily through bittorrent. In which case I would imagine well-running QoS would be a key factor, and would affect your "perceived performance". Tomato's...

    DIR-655 vs. E3000 vs WNDR3700

Asus RT-N16 has excellent 3rd Party support, though only 2.4Ghz radio. Just FYI as you mentioned 3rd Party support, the E3000 is now supported by Tomato, albeit a bit Beta, with simultaneous dual-band wifi now supported.

    Distributing bandwidth equally

...which won't help at all in this case because it runs on the Mac, not on the router, and therefore can only tell you what is going in or out of that particular machine, not the network generally.

Does router with DHCP server affect gigabit speed?

That discussion is all about jumbo frames, which is separate from the issue of 100 or 1000 ethernet speeds. I'm not that expert on implementation of jumbo frames. If you have the thing setup, it's pretty easy to show that you are getting gigabit speeds. Do a file transfer and see. If you're...

Does router with DHCP server affect gigabit speed?

Yes, if your setup is ADSL router > Fast ethernet > Gigabit Switch > Gigabit ethernet > computers, then a computer<>computer file transfer will be at gigabit speeds

    Distributing bandwidth equally

On some QoS you can assign priority based on the client IP address, but generally you would use that to give one machine priority over other traffic, I'm not sure whether that could be used to ensure each client gets equal traffic. Another way would be to use an IP/MAC address based bandwidth...

Comparing my Dir-655 with my new WNDR3700

One thing (slightly unrelated but thought I'd mention it given your Mac setup) is that as per this thread Apple wireless clients can't connect to 2.4Ghz access points using 40Mhz channels, if you want 40Mhz channels you need to use 5Ghz. You said you're using 5Ghz so you should be OK, but just...

    Current "Best Hackable" AP

Not sure about best access point per se, but probably the best, most-supported, router at the moment is the Asus RT-N16. I use Tomato firmware on a an Asus WL-500GPv2 at the moment, but if I was buying new I'd probably go for the RT-N16. Doesn't have dual radios though....

managed switch recommend for VoIP home net

What about Netgear GS108T v2 ? http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=3367 I think that would do the same as the GS110TP, but without the PoE port for the VOIP phone if you could live without it.

Anyone ever used the Cisco/Linksys WAP610N access point? http://www.linksysbycisco.com/EU/en/products/WAP610N Just curious whether it's any good. Am looking for an N access point with high wireless throughput and where I live these are one of the few available. Some reviews on...
