Need advice with new router and AP

Android has several apps (I use Best Wifi) that will change network based on signal strength. I've been away from Apple for a while, is there nothing similar?

Travel, sim. dual band, dual Ethernet

Still curious about the requirements. I use either a galaxy s4, my main phone, or a nexus 7 2013 LTE, as a hot spot, to connect my work laptop to the vpn when I'm at a client or contractor office. It has worked for me in the US, UK, Madrid, Morocco, Sicily, and Quebec. My coworker does the same...

Travel, sim. dual band, dual Ethernet

Any chance of more information on your setup? Based on your title, I've used an asus rt-n16 with a 3g USB modem in hotels and conference rooms for work and play. Well supported and well built is more important to me than fitting all possible bells and whistles in one box.

    Measuring Signal for Rearrangement

Outside meaning Internet, meaning not just the lan. I'm off to read about moca. Thanks for the reminder.

Need to rework and improve my home WiFi

Yes, I expected OP, and I, mean moving from AP to AP (or in my case, AP to combo modem/router).

Need to rework and improve my home WiFi

The framed art gets my vote. Also, in my one story house, I have a 20A circuit just for lights and outlets in the attic. That would more than feed a couple access points. Regarding the handoff, android has several wifi manager apps that support jumping when signal strength drops. Not sure if...

    Measuring Signal for Rearrangement

Hello Forum I'm trying to help my inlaws get better wifi coverage throughout their house. I've used heat map apps in the past (like this) but that really only shows signal to the router/AP you're connected to, not "outside" bandwidth (or at least, I've only used it that way. Not sure quite...

Some advice in buying an AC router

What are your clients? I have an asus rt n16, not exactly cutting edge any more, that comfortably handles one box doing 7mbps downloads, one raspberry pi with xbmc playing a 1080p movie in the living room off a hdd on the router, a tablet watching hulu, and a laptop doing Skype. I have been...

    Do I need a VLAN? Server-Router-Router-TV

Sorry for the confusion, let me know if the pic clears it up. The wifi device (laptop in the pic) slows down the LAN enough to make video unwatchable, and the video slows it down enough to make browsing unbearable. I got a few hints, I will reformat my samba shared drive to ext3 from ntfs...

    Do I need a VLAN? Server-Router-Router-TV

Hi there Feel free to send me to another forum. My house is two stories, with a desktop upstairs (may qualify as a NAS some day, for now, it's just an old desktop with a big hdd) wired to a DSL modem/router (Technicolor 5130) wired to an Asus RT-N16 (DDWRT) wired to a Raspberry Pi. The...

    Three story house

How long? How long will you be in the house? I ask because my family and I just moved to Morocco for a two year assignment, and the house we're in sounds similar to yours - all concrete, roof deck, only difference is one less floor and I'm aiming for coverage by the pool about 50 feet off...
