Ok, calling @eibgrad: How do we now reimpose the former killswitch behavior? I do not want two devices ever to connect to the internet except over the tunnel designated in VPN Director. Even if the tunnel is down.

If you are already using the latest stable Merlin firmware, I would not hesitate to update to these alpha builds as they are purely security related patches. Asus has been releasing builds with similar patches for most of its router models over the past couple of weeks (still a work in progress).
