No need to elaborate but I'm proud of you @RMerlin for showing the flag.

Agreed, not sure what happend but looks like we are a national security threat these days...
Best friends, best allies, hurting, tragic, why? Just terrible.

Hmm... seems like someone took 25% of the thumbs up emoji. Interesting.

Not Canadian, but lived in Calgary for almost a year and spent some great time east and west and north. Great country, great people. Hang on in there and have strength. Allies stand united.

Bootleg beer, whiskey and maple syrup runs will commence soon...

Call me... code name Al Tech1, Italian: [al teˈcoːne]. I can take over Buffalo area.

Seems like one of the themes of the Devil's Brigade; Claude Akins vs Jack Watson. Speaking as a Canadian.

Just like in Jaws... gonna need a bigger boat.

I live just south of your border, yet I find myself cheering for Canadians and your beautiful country.

The current situation reminds me of this quote from Plato: "Strange times are these in which we live when old and young are taught falsehoods in school. And the person that dares to tell the truth is called at once a lunatic and fool”

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back. ~Carl Sagan

Resolved this afternoon?
...postponed for 30 days, then all hell will break lose again with one tweet...
Feeling is that this instability will lead to / trigger long term changes.
The worlds largest and most successful bilateral relationship - Canada and the United States, deliberately damaged.

Once the snow melts...

I'm against the whole "shock and awe" tactics of the current administration, we're in a pretty bad place at the moment - malice and cruelty are the point of the MAGA moment - just saying...

I have personal and professional ties with both Mexico and Canada. I can only hope that things can be resolved in a fair manner...

Cheeto man backtracked hard. The strong arm tactics can go both ways still not something I expected; I’m proud our Canadian government took this stance. I just hope we don’t let the wind out of our sails too soon. The world is chaotic enough without this radical spouting manifest destiny and economic uncertainty.

I feel for the Americans to some extent, hopefully one man doesn’t scuttle your country overnight for personal profit and power. All anyone should want is financial stability and peace, but some want to watch it burn.

Anyways politics give me a headache trying to understand the US from the outside. I don’t get it. As a Canadian we tend to consume a lot of American media so were watching.

These are hard times, let’s hope for peaceful resolutions with our allies we’re better off that way.

The US politics is extremely polarized. For various reasons. What you are seeing is a pendulum swinging back to the right after that pendulum swung to the left for four years. Trump for all his faults, and there are many, is a business man not a politician. He operates by using the "big ask" to negotiate. His tariff are a negotiation tactic. Its a way of getting people to the table when they otherwise wouldn't. Political polarization exists in other countries just as it does in the US, and everyone is seeing and reacting based on their emotions which is colored and influenced by the information (often biased) they consume and the echo chambers people typically live in these days.

And now politics is unfortunately seeping into this subforum.

I agree - this isn't really the best forum - but good to let off some steam.

My issue is more about Elon running amok - and we still have that whole "Project 2025" thing that seems to be a roadmap for the current admin.
