Hello guys!

I'm wondering if I put my AC66U into repeater-mode, will it also put through internet to the LAN ports or only fordard the wireless signal?

Yes, you'll have internet on the LAN ports also.

Hello, first of all, thank you for your answer.

Secondly: What is then the difference between the repeater-mode and the media bridge-mode? Is it that the repeater also sends out a wireless signal whereas the media bridge only takes the wireless signal from the main hub and transfers it through the LAN-ports?

And what are the pro's and con's with both modes?

You're correct. Repeater mode acts like a media bridge but also extends your wireless coverage(at half speed).

I have Asus AC66U and a Asus AC3100 routers. I want to use my AC66U as a repeater to extend my network for the third floor of my house. My problem is that the AC66U router doesn't seem to work with the AC3100 router. I update the firmware and turned off the 5ghz radio on both devices. I put the AC66U in repeater mode and it sees the AC3100 2.4ghz SID no problem I select and choose the default for the AC66U to use the configuration information from the AC3100, one odd thing I still see settings for both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz radio when I expected to see just the 2.4ghz one. The AC66U tries to connect to the network and it never finishes. I see the repeater network as a wireless network but it has no internet. Not sure what to do next I am going to call ASUS tech support but I figured I would post here first to see if anyone has had the same experience and figured out a configuraiton that works.

Some recent experiences I had:
Some time ago I "upgraded" the home network from the good old RT-N66U to a RT-AC68U and recently just out of curiosity tried the RT-N66U as repeater.
With everything as much as possible default I found that the RT-N66U only connected to 2.4 GHz of the RT-AC68U, probably to not distort 802.11ac.
The RT-N66U as repeater though did repeat on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and as bonus the LAN ports of the RT-N66U where also active and gave Internet access.

I have exactly the same set up, AC68 to repeater N66, the N66 didn't find the AC68 5ghz during the scan, i manually typed in the AC68 5ghz instead, then the N66 connected to the 5ghz. The N66 now transmits it's own 2.4 rpt and 5 rpt.
Merlins 380.62 on both routers.

Paul.

Mine was only a quick test to actually see the Repeater setup in AsusWRT, the RT-N66U is back to spares box.
[EDIT]
And the setup was so straight forward (just click away) that I did not make screen shots or notes.

I recently gave it another try, just out of curiosity.
RT-AC68U with 3.0.0.4.380.4164.
RT-N66U with 3.0.0.4.380.3831.
I tried the RT-N66U in Repeater Mode and in Media Bridge mode.
I figured that the RT-N66U in both modes can connect at one frequency band at a time (either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
I allways thought it could connect with both band together to try to reach the maximum advertised throughput.
I also noticed that in both modes, the RT-N66U initially only shows 2.4 GHz connections (my own RT-AC68U and of neighbors) in the "connect to" picklist.
After I manually typed in the details of the 5 GHz connection for my RT-AC68U it succesfuly connected on 5 GHz.
Then, when I returned to the picklist it also showed 5 GHz connections of myself and a few neighbors.
Setup of Repeater or Media Bridge is anyhow pretty straight forward.
After this second trial the RT-N66U is back to storage.
