What is a "min update" in the AMTM update menu? If I go through the 3rd party script update, it doesn't do anything and amtm still states there is a min update.

A small update that doesn't require a new version number. You have to update within the 3rd party script. I.e. Open Skynet [2] - choose 10 ---> Update Skynet , [1] ---> Check For And Install Any New Updates
This should take care of the min update message

Sorry I wasn't specific enough. I just meant each individual script's own update process. For instance, I have a min update for FreshJR QOS. If I go through that menu and use it's update feature, it still shows I have a min update. Is FreshJR QOS still supported?

Edit: I think it was just FreshJR that isn't updating. I think it's no longer supported. Can anyone confirm? What is the best alternative for online gaming and tv streaming services?

FlexQOS has replaced FreshQOS...

FreshJR Adaptive QOS is deprecated (https://diversion.ch/amtm.html), use FlexQoS, its successor.
FreshJR has not pushed an update since about two years, I have no idea why amtm thinks there's an update available. Maybe the file that amtm checks, /jffs/scripts/FreshJR_QOS, was modified for some reason on your router, triggering the minor update check.

Chrony cannot be found there. Is this a pointer to the abandoned entware-ng repo?
On my AC86U the repository is

http://pkg.entware.net/binaries/mipsel is the correct repo for your MIPSEL based router. This is an abandoned repository and no new packages will be added to it.
There was for a time a time limited updated repository by @maurer where the existing packages were brought up to speed but no new packages were added. The now dormant project is and will be online for the foreseeable future and can be activated in Diversion.
The command Diversion runs on opkg.conf is this bit of code, which should be followed by an opkg update and opkg upgrade after:

sed -i '2i\src/gz entware-backports-mirror https://maurerr.github.io/packages' /opt/etc/opkg.conf

So, even this repo by @maurer does not feature the Chrony binary: https://maurerr.github.io/packages/
The active Entware repo for newer processor models as you have in your RT-AC86U has it available, as you probably know: http://bin.entware.net/aarch64-k3.10/Packages.html

No, that repo is for kernel 3.4 versions. The Asus MIPSEL routers run on the much older 2.xx kernel. There is no known way to update the kernel version - it would be a monumental task to do that for a dying router series.

If you are running John's fork as the firmware, amtm is built into it. Just enter amtm into the terminal and press Enter.
If not, try to run that install command again (and again), maybe reboot the router first to clear the partially downloaded file from its volatile location.
