AP v AiMesh?

Just read this before you ask another question with ChatGPT involvement. I personally find offensive this type of questions and leave the OP to ChatGPT. You have to choose between life people with experience and AI crap. Your first choice was AI - stick to it. Wrong way to ask questions in a life forum.

It's not a matter of choice but rather objective, correct, accurate information which I'll take wherever I can find it.

The moment you start with ChatGPT you limit your information sources significantly. None of the experts will waste time arguing with AI crap with you translating in the middle. So you have no choice but believe ChatGPT or whatever other AI you find there. Good luck!

Ouch. I forgot who said this but the movie industry really ruined our opinion on AI. The first one was that boy on the computer that almost started nuclear war. Then Terminator, one, two, then three. (Was there another that I missed? Maybe I should ask ChatGPT. 😉 )

I find it interesting as I went back to school at an old age how my son showed me you could "ask" these AI about questions you have on your homework, like literally input the entire question and it will give an answer with supporting arguments. I can't tell you how many times I tried a difficult question, AND it gave the wrong answer. I believe I tried Google Gemini....

Claude AI said AiMesh is better. Who/what to believe? 😂

I'm putting it back to AiMesh

I had a little time to read the answer that ChatGPT gave you. It seems to have gotten the first part of the answer WRONG. I stopped reading roughly at the end of the first paragraph...

Access Point mode doesn't even work without Ethernet, Repeater mode would. Both AP and Mesh benefit from wired/Ethernet Backhaul.

It's harder to control the AP than a Mesh node. The centralized control comes with Mesh.

(I'm afraid that was enough to get me to stop reading)...

I believe I tried Google

Pretty accurate information for @BeachGuy to take. Have some sand around? - make a smoothie.

That's why I was checking with the "experts" here

I've been running my satellite ASUS routers in AP mode for 4+ years at two locations. Works great for me. Not once have I had my AP routers drop offline or act strangely. I run my main and AP routers on different channels, and no obvious issues with channel hoping as devices switch between routers.

The primary issue with AP mode is that it lacks some features that Aimesh has. Perhaps the most valuable is the guest network capabilities. Some scripting is needed to create LAN-isolated guest networks on APs. However, I think this issue is resolved with 3006.102. Just waiting for ASUS-Merlin to reach non-BE routers.

So you prefer AP over AiMesh? Any reason why you don't use AiMesh?

Too many people complain about Aimesh functionality issues. I've never once had an issue with AP mode. And I prefer having each AP (including the wifi router) on a unique channel to maximize wifi performance.
