A. Create VLAN without DHCP

1. Settings -> Lan -> Vlan -> Profile = create VLAN​

2. "Self-defined network" -> select vlan -> advanced settings = choose the network here​

B. Create VLAN with DHCP

1. "Self-defined network" -> Customized Network ->​

• WiFi Band = None
• "SSID" = name for VLAN ID
• Intranet - access or deny
• Same subnet or not

2. "Self-defined network" -> select vlan -> advanced settings = choose the network here.​

• Change VLAN ID and network to what you want

I see it as another proof 3.0.0.6 firmware can actually run on "older hardware" perhaps down to RT-AX58U V2* and many current models will be killed for marketing reasons. The other concern is once again included "free" Trend Micro service with data sharing agreement. This may not go well on a business market.

* - the single PoE AP Asus currently have is most likely BCM6756 based with built-in 2x2 radios. Runs Asuswrt 3.0.0.6, AiMesh node.

BT is just for phone app setup and maybe management.

From the amazon.com page: "up to five SSID." I assume this means a choice of five wireless SSID and/or VLAN. Shouldn't that also be "Software-defined networking" not "self-defined network?"

Went in stock on Amazon. Bought one for testing and will be here this week.

I have such a low bar for VLAN that this should work. If not, I will return and force myself to move to tplink which I am trying to avoid.

It seems a very odd direction to be going in. Bluetooth setup, WiFi via additional APs only, no 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps port(s). Very odd!
I'd also wonder with the 8+1 port PoE version does it have a switched power supply?

By the way, this router has to have basic wireless settings. As per description it can be used as AiMesh main unit. AiMesh nodes don't have own WebGUI.

Did not agree and it works fine without. AIProtection and Traffic Analyzer are empty.

You are right about the wireless. I just expected that to be "off" until aimesh was activated. There is an "AiMesh Node" as a choice for operating mode.

Note: don't have aimesh working so this is strictly about wired and all I have available are dumb switches/dumb poe switches.

My experience
Port4 -> VLAN 100. Some devices showed up correctly. Some just didn't want to move. My very low bar appears to be have been too high. Had another bug where a static route was incorrectly labeled as DHCP in the client list.


Annoyances:
Absolutely any changes requires a complete restart of network and re-login.

GUI will beachball/freeze sometimes after applying settings.

There is an "AiMesh Node" as a choice for operating mode.

In this case the router will work as a simple Ethernet switch. Why would someone pay $90 for a 5-port Gigabit switch - I don't know.

AImesh working.

No clue what was preventing this. Don't use dumb switches (tried with trendnet, buffalo, and TPlink), try different cables, use the shortest cables you can find, connect directly to EBG15.

ac68u's + EBG15

1. Hold WPS button
2. Plugin in power
3. Wait for power led to flash
4. Release
5. **wait for aimesh node to fully boot up ** (i.e. default asus SSID's fully show up as available + 3-4 minutes)
6. Click Add AiMesh Node in EBG15. Should instantly find it. Any delays = likely fail = restart at #1
7. Takes at least 5 minutes to add.

If new ssid's show up; but fails to add = restart at #1



Another bug in client list:
aimesh nodes only = ethernet, wireless bands are tagged properly
AP's = wireless clients can be labeled "ethernet" despite being wireless

(Note: Keystone jack or switch port is bad on one aimesh node shown in my attachment)

Currently picking out new smart switches to hopefully get vlan working.

Sending it back is perhaps the best configuration for this router. Set and forget.

EBR63 works as a node.

EBM68 has way more advanced settings. "Smart Connect?"

It appears you can add/remove VLAN's/SSID's from specific AiMesh nodes.

According to the demo, up to 8 SSID's can be created, not just five.

Does anyone know what "Security Upgrade" is? Is that just trend micro?

The same ASD that bricked millions of Asus routers not long ago. Users had to reset to defaults or delete the bad file over SSH.

Read the messages on the screen carefully. If Asus decides so you get the updates anyway. The same with their consumer products.
