Has anyone had any success with downgrading firmware on the Asus gt-be98. I am at my wits end. I installed the new firmware and MLO worked fairly okay but but now I’m getting 700-900 download - 1700 upload. I’m not sure what the new firmware has meant to of fixed but it’s just made it worse.

So has anyone been able to downgrade to previous firmware?

Yes its buggy, there BE98 non pro just got an upgrade. So we should be soon since they are the same, just different radios. Trust me, my brand new one I got as a replacement still does weird things.

I have two issues with my BE98:
1) SSIDs show up in hex in the admin interface for my AXE1600 node and my BE88U node
2) 5 GHz is disabled in the BE88U node

Otherwise it is working fine, no speed issues at all.

The AXE1600 works fine but it recently got an update (Sept 27) to 3.0.0.4.388_24374. The BE88U is stuck on 3.0.0.6.102_33921 from back in May 19.
Two older AX-nodes works fine.

(The BE98 is running 3.0.0.6.102_36852.)

I don't know if that's the case here, but there's a good chance that Asus may have put a block in place to prevent downgrades of the GT-BE98/GT-BE98_PRO to below a minimum version due to the availability of idfferent hardware revision where downgrading a newer revision would brick your device.

Oh okay so basically we are all still stuck with a router that doesn’t function the way it’s meant to😂

It does state on their official page when upgrading to latest fw:

ASUS GT-BE98 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_36852
Version 3.0.0.6.102_36852
69.04 MB
2024/10/04
*Please be advised that due to an architecture upgrade in AiMesh, we highly discourage downgrading to earlier firmware versions as it may result in connectivity problems. If you experience any difficulties, we suggest resetting the AiMesh router to its default settings and re-establishing the mesh connection.

It does state on their official page when upgrading to latest fw:
The wireless settings storage will definitely not be compatible. Going back to any release older will at the very minimum require a complete factory default reset. Wireless parameters are no stored in the same nvram variables as before.

This is really good info. I appreciate that!

Could it be that the new FW for BE98, in effect, breaks 5 GHz on WiFi7 nodes in the AiMesh? All my other nodes runs fine on 5 GHz but they are all WiFi6 or WiFi6E.

No, it turned out that a cheap UPS (CyberPower - avoid) was slowly breaking down and somehow loaded down the BE88U via the RJ-45 that ran through the protection port on the UPS to a backup NAS. The wired network speed to the UPS was down to 100 Mbps before the UPS went down completely.
With the UPS gone I have my 5 GHz band back and normal wired speeds.

I thought that too, same but one just has an extra radio band enabled. Looking at Asus firmware notes though, they fix totally different things between Pro and BE98. You'd think they would say similar, albeit the older one wouldn't have the newer changes in the newer one (where both models out of sync in release cycles.)

Both the non Pro and the Pro BE98 has new firmware as of Nov 5, Very similar version numbering but fixes different things. I plan to upgrade my non Pro tomorrow.
BE98 non Pro: 3.0.0.6.102_36855 - https://rog.asus.com/networking/rog-rapture-gt-be98-model/helpdesk_bios/
BE98 Pro: 3.0.0.6.102_34508 - https://rog.asus.com/networking/rog-rapture-gt-be98-pro/helpdesk_bios/
