Anyone using 7496?
I'm having wi-fi issues since installing. Devices drop, then come back (for awhile) when I reboot the router.
I've been running smart connect off for awhile, but just tried setting Rotation Interval to 0. Still dropping.

I didn't reset settings after installing. Do I need to (PITA) ? What do you all generally do with settings when updating ?

Thanks.

david_31262, see this FAQ on NVRAM and factory reset and these suggestions on how to avoid problems when doing a firmware update. (There must be bugs in the startup/initialization sequence.)

Thanks for the help, Jerry.

I have screenshots of the config screens, I was just hoping I wouldn't have to factory reset. Between VPN, DDNS, MAC filtering, etc, it's quite a PITA (especially with a router that's getting 1-2 updates a month).

It would be great if there was an option to restore "user" settings only (like ip address, filter, & DNS settings). Or, perhaps an option to choose what settings get restored.

So, far, I have not done the factory reset. I changed the 2.4G wireless type from Auto to "Legacy Only" (no "n"), and things have stayed connected (so far). I have a Honeywell wi-fi thermostat so don't expect to ever see n anyway on the 2.4 gig anyway.

I'm not sure why this problem only showed up since installing 7496. Perhaps a factory reset is still in order.

The nvram save/restore utility writes the settings into a shell script and aims to filter them down to the ones that make sense to restore. But it's a guessing game to predict which settings will be compatible with future firmware.

(What's really needed is for the firmware itself to write an extensible format and read it in with logic to tell which settings and values still make sense and what interdependencies to preserve.)

You could run the nvram utility and trim it manually, assuming the parameter names are self-descriptive. My approach is a text file describing all my settings to restore after a factory reset.

I upgraded to 7498 and did a factory reset and i get complaints about dropped connections on wifi. I have smart connect turned off now but still have issues. I just got the router so don't have experience with older firmware or can point to any version that is actually stable for me. The other issue i have is after i make some changes and you get the progress indicator the router says complete but just hangs. The actual activity lights on the router LAN/WiFi connections stop. Have to reset to get connections back.

Smart connect has always been useless for me. I would go back to 4980 and give it a try, or to merlins software here in the forums.

It doesn't say that this is Beta so I was confused. I updated my router but haven't done a hardware reset yet from the previous Beta version I was running. Preliminary findings so far: the QoS drag and drop "coloring" for hosts still doesn't work. I may try another reset.

What is this "for japan only" releases?

Most likely attempts to fix issues that are Japanese only or, with their specific language interface.

But the firmware works for all devices, world wide.

3.0.0.4.378_7838, also 6 days uptime. Very stable.

A few observations:
-- 5G-2 stability issues seem to be resolved
-- USB hard drive detection far more reliable
-- 'Applying' settings completes quicker.
-- Some nice extra polish to some parts of the GUI
-- miniupnpd is more verbose, lots of messages in the log.
-- NTP update frequency NOT fixed. Still every hour.

Very pleased with this F/W revision.

Anyone having issues with traffic analyser as i have??

traffic-analyser (statistic) is still showing under monthly and weekly (ending reporting on 12-08-2015) but not daily (today 16-08-2015)
Guess it has something to do with Trend Micro as i cannot imagine that this data is stored in the memory of the router itselve?
