Now, the previous firmware version, 5.0ghz band is ok. For follow your suggest, i needed flash the last firmware again, for now i don't to do it.

How to reset region, because i choose another one, and no fix the problem?!

Thanks.

Try this, in the region select Indiana (east) click ok
If that holds, then you can select your region, there is a bug
that prohibits the region change unless you select a completely different
region first. Let me know if that works.

A netgear R7000 is now running. Stable so far and god coverage and speed. Have 90 days to try the R7000 out if it is stable. If Asus get their shirt together before that I may give the AC87 a new try before it is also returned. Thanks all for help and advice.

Just a quick report from me. The R7000 still running flawlessly. No dropouts or problems first week, very different from the AC87. No need to look at R7000 related forums yet :-D

Similar speed, but better coverage in the far ends of our house with the AC87. Like the Asus setup program and parental control settings much better. But when the router is as unstable as the AC87 is in its current iteration that is not relevant...

Kalahtunet,

I had the r7000 running in my home for the last 2 months. Fairly stable but you will experience intermittent slow downs.

I now have the RT-87U with the latest stock firmware. Running now 3 days its rock solid. Page loads are MUCH faster than the r7000. Transfers from
my attached 2 TB USB 3.0 HD is also about 20% faster consistently on downloads from the HD. When viewing digital Pics from the HD it now loads instantly from picture to picture, with the r7000 it was always on a buffered delay. There is no doubt in my mind the R-87U is the better router.

As far as signal strength the one measurable one to my OPPO 103, for the r7000 it was 82%, on the RT-87U it is 90% signal strength.

This is from hands on experience.

cc666, needed reset the router, because not work?

compare the 87 to netgear r7500.

compare

on page 2 of that link
Power consumption ASUS RT-AC87U Netgear R7500 N...
Power consumption on 12.8 W Netgear 8.3 W
Power consumption while transmitting to three laptops 13.3 W Netgear 9.2 W

so far so good on 2nd day, but 3rd and beyond will be the true test.

Do this

Mucci,

Do this:

1 - perform a factory reset and manually enter routers settings.

2 - The admin problem has been a bug in the last 2 beta builds. You simply select another time zone (Indiana worked for me) then PUT IN YOUR ADMIN PW AND HIT APPLY. Then everything seems to work and you can choose your time zone without any issues and enable telnet.

Anyone seeing issues with 378.3885 and IPV6 addresses not sticking to clients? On all of my Windows clients I keep having to ipconfig /renew6 on them to get an IPv6 address.

Have had the AC87 for two months and I have learned more about wifi routers in that time than in all my router years combined, and that not in a good way…

Hope your AC87 will stay stable also after 3 days our surely have NOT been reliable (I will go as far to say that it is a broken product). We will keep it to see if there will be a firmware that actually works stable before it is returned. Asus have 83 days to prove themselves….

Well, i believe this router is not broken, because firmware previous version ( 3.0.0.4.376.2769) works fine. If ASUS fix new firmware is a good device. I Hope!!

Why 83 days to prove?

Well, not work.

Really do not know what else can be done. And if something can be done.

The latest firmware is very stable and fast, Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.3885. Have you tried this firmware? With this firmware my
RT-87 is rock solid and fast as hell. When the EA-87AP gets released we will
experience the full power of this router.

Like i said, this firmware, for my 87R, 5.0GHz stop to work, i don't know why. I waiting more than 5 minutes, after 2.4GHz up, but not works. Wainting for another firmware.

Happening this in first time to try flash Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.3885:

appears a message "Update faile, possible reason: wrong image, or corrupted file', never happening this before, ok, i wrote to ASUS, answer to me send a link to download and instructions, final instruction: Hard reset your your device pressing reset botton for 30 seconds, setup manually again. After that never more 5.0ghz is stable. I don't no the reason.

If you have any other idea, is welcome.

Thanks.

Has anyone tried/had issues with AirPrint and this router?

I have an HP printer/scanner combination which worked flawlessly with my old RT-N66U connected to a MacBook Pro on the 2.4GHz network. Now, with the RT-AC87U, most times the computer doesn't even recognize that the printer is turned on. I was able to remove the printer from the MacBook, reconnect it to the wireless network, and reestablish the connection last night but it's stopped working yet again today.

I have in the past with this router but I will try tonight to make sure it is still working, you can try to disable "Nat acceleration" and see if that helps

This is the last thing I would try if I were you.

1. Update to latest firmware 3885

2. WPS reset (unplug power, Hold the WPS button down and keep it held while plugging power back in and KEEP it held for 30 seconds, then release the WPS button)

3. Unplug power (after 2 minutes from step 2)

4. Put router in recovery mode (holding down the reset button and keep it held while plugging power back in and KEEP it held for 30 seconds, then release the reset button)

5. Use the Asus recovery program (on the disk that came with this router) and use the same 3885 firmware.

6. After it boots do a WPS reset again (#2 above, only).

7. Add 123456789 as password for the router, use the Asus names for the wifi and only add 1233456789 as your WPS2 key it asks for in the startup

8. Wait for it to boot up, see if all is well or 5GHz problems still

This is assuming that the router finds your WAN.

IF you still have 5GHz problems your router is bad.

I think we all can agree on this?

Note: I have now and recommend you put a laptop cooler under this router.

Have tried yes. Crashed 2 times in two days... periodic dropouts of internet connection like the previous firmware versions.... I.e far from stable.

83 days because the shop i got the R7000 have a 90 days return policy....

Where exactly do you find the Nat acceleration option?

I have this same issue with RT-AC66U, and RT-AC87R, This is a bug with Printer Serve, ASUS don`t fix this. When my hp printer is not rocognized, just powercycle the router.
